Thankful Thursday Week 7: May 8th – May 14th {Plus Daily Lessons Learned}

“Today be thankful and think how rich you are. Your family is priceless, your time is gold, and you health is wealth.”

Thankful Thursday Week 7 is here! It was a busy yet wonderful week, especially because I got to end it with a day spent with family! Work was crazy, the weather was all over the place, and my mind has been cluttered with thoughts for far too long. I started focusing on getting my life organized, but then life got in the way. Hopefully I can make more progress next week. I am sick of feeling so disorganized and lost.

Thankful Thursday Week 7

Monday, May 8th, 2017

Today I am thankful for the printer. I started planning out what I want in all of my new organization binders. In the end I will have 3 different binders: My Life Binder, My Dreaming With Love Binder, and My Money Binder. The printer came in handy today as I was printing out some of the different papers I want in my binders. I LOVE organizing my life in this way and I am SO EXCITED to have everything the way I want it. I will definitely keep you updated as my binders come together!

Lesson Learned: If you want to do something for yourself or in your life at all, just do it. Stop waiting for tomorrow or “next week” and just do it now. That is the only way you will get started and future you will thank you. One of the biggest regrets many people have in their life is that they wish they would’ve started sooner. This applies to so many things so whatever it is in your life right now that you want to start… JUST DO IT! Today.

Tuesday, May 9th, 2017

Today I am thankful for early nights. For a lot of people sleep is the first thing that gets sacrificed on a busy day. Not for me. I LOVE sleep. Always have, Always will.

I had an extremely busy day at work today so as a result, I was super tired. After dinner I sat down on the couch with my boyfriend and almost instantly fell asleep (and started drooling haha).

Soon after, I dragged myself into bed and slept soundly throughout the night. It felt great. I woke up refreshed and ready to take on Wednesday!

Lesson Learned: I’ve talked about this before, but we all need to stop putting our health on the back burner. If you’re tired that is your body telling you something so get some sleep. Our mental and physical health is so important in order to have a productive day and life!

Wednesday, May 10th, 2017

Today I am thankful for grocery shopping day. To be completely honest, I am ALWAYS thankful for grocery shopping day. I love the feeling of having full cupboards, a full fridge, and a full freezer. The endless options of food choices. It’s the best!

My bank account suffers, but my tummy is happy.

Lesson Learned: Sometimes it’s the little things in life that make us happy and that is okay. Enjoy every small and big moment, every single day.

Thursday, May 11th, 2017

Today I am thankful for lunch breaks. I had such a stressful and busy day at work. All morning I was looking forward to my lunch break.

I went home, ate my lunch, and cuddled with my cats. It was a short period of time, but it was perfect and everything I needed today.

Lesson Learned: It is really important to live in the moment and not spend your life waiting. Waiting for the weekend, waiting for the summer, waiting for school to be over, etc. Stop waiting and make the most of the present.

However we aren’t perfect and once in a while it is okay to “wait”. Sometimes the present situation isn’t enjoyable or ideal. Do your best to make it as positive as possible, but to help you get through it remind yourself that it won’t last forever.

Friday, May 12th, 2017

Today I am thankful for Fridays. At the same time I’m not though. Friday is my busiest day at work and this week has been especially busy (next week will be as well). I’ve had to stay late multiple days this week and even extra long today.

Despite all of that, Friday means I don’t have to do this tomorrow and I get to sleep in. That makes me SO happy especially after the kind of week I had.

Lesson Learned: Even if there is a lot of bad in your day, find the good in it and focus on that. Sometimes it much more obvious than others, but it is always there.

Saturday, May 13th, 2017

Today I am thankful for another day. I had a really bad day today and was in a bad mood for no particular reason. It was just one of those days and I’m thankful it is over.

Lesson Learned: I know there were things to be thankful for today, but honestly I’m more thankful that the day is over. And that’s okay. Sometimes we all have days like that. The important thing is to forget about it and start fresh the next day.

Sunday, May 14th, 2017

Today I am thankful for my mommy. I didn’t have to even think about what I was thankful for today because it’s Mother’s Day! I hope you all had a Happy Mother’s Day!

Today I spent the day with my family and it was so wonderful to see them all again. I moved 4 hours away from them at the age of 17 for college. I now live 45 minutes away and am so appreciative of every time I get to see them, even if it is only for a short time.

Lesson Learned: Spend time with your family as often as you can. Cherish that time because it won’t always be an option. Let your family know how much you love and appreciate them! You don’t need to do this with gifts, but just with your presence and your love. You’ll surely regret it if you don’t.

DREAMING WITH LOVE BLOG UPDATES

HELLO EVERYONE! <3

I have a ton of new and exciting updates happening for me and Dreaming With Love so I decided to dedicate an entire post to let you all know what’s going on! If you read my 50th blog post (WOW 50 posts already?!?!) then you already have an idea of what changes are happening/happened. If you haven’t read it, go check it out and then come back here! I’ll wait.

Let’s get right into it!


New Posting Schedule

In the past 4 months I haven’t had much of a “schedule” for when to post. I have mainly been focusing on getting a decent number of posts on my blog. Now that I have reached over 50 posts I want to start focusing on the quality more and less on quantity.

I will be posting Monday mornings, Thursdays at 2pm Central, and Saturday afternoons.

Monday and Saturday posts will be random and I would love to hear any suggestions or requests you have for future blog posts!

Thursday posts will continue to be my Thankful Thursday Posts. I’m not sure how much you guys are enjoying them, but they have helped me a ton! If you don’t know about the Thankful Thursday Series I have then check out Thankful Thursday Week 6! && let me know what you think!

 

Social Media Changes

I have been focusing more on my “branding” for Dreaming With Love so you will be seeing many changes on my social media platforms. Profile picture change, header picture change, bio change. You get the idea. There will also be specific changes on some of the platforms.

Twitter

Twitter has always been one of my favorite platforms. I post on here everyday, multiple times a day, and I absolutely love interacting with others on Twitter.

Only visual changes will be happening here.

Facebook

I use Facebook quite often in my personal life, but only recently started to for Dreaming With Love. I update my Facebook page every weekday and sometimes on weekends.

Plus I started joining some group boards so I have met so many amazing people! Interacting on Facebook is also one of my favorite things to do! I have learned so much from the people I have met.

Again only visual changes will be happening on my page.

Pinterest

A ton of changes happening to my pinterest! Visually everything is getting a makeover. New profile picture, new bio, new board covers, new pin template.

I currently am on pinterest pretty much every single day, multiple times a day. I absolutely love it and get so many amazing ideas from it.

If you’ve never been on pinterest, I highly recommend you check it out!

Instagram

I’m slowly getting better at instagram and post kind of sporadically. I’ve been trying to post at least once a day, but you know. Life.

I really want to create a instagram for my cats, but I can’t even handle one account.

Lol. Someday.

However I have some pretty great pictures and inspirational quotes on there! I promise I will continue to improve and I would love your support!

Google +

I just recently (very recently) started a Google+ Account. I am slowly figuring it out and don’t have much to say about it yet.

StumbleUpon

I have barely started using this, but I want to start to more. Someone tell me what I need to know about it because I am clueless!

I LOVE Bloglovin’ and I honestly use it everyday!

Website Updates

If you’re new to my blog then you probably won’t notice this. However, if you’ve been around for a while then you know I’ve been doing HUGE changes to my website and brand as a whole.

When I first created my website, I had no idea what I wanted. After blogging for a few months, I have a way better idea!

So far I have been receiving super positive feedback from you guys, which is great! More changes will continue to happen, but they probably won’t be as noticeable. Just figuring out a few small details still. (:

Thankful Thursday Week 6: May 1st-May 7th {Plus Daily Lessons Learned}

Thankful Thursday Week 6 is here! This was an interesting week for me. I have been feeling defeated and exhausted lately so I used this week to refuel. I had many lazy nights and a lot of personal care, mental and physical. My life feels so hectic right now so I really want to use the rest of May to get organized. I feel like my To-do list is never-ending, which makes me feel defeated before I even start. Thankful Thursday Week 6 wasn’t a bad week, but I am hoping that Week 7 is more productive and fulfilling.

Thankful Thursday Week 6

Monday, May 1st, 2017

Today I am thankful for bath time. I was never a bath person when I was younger, but for the past two years I have become OBSESSED. I haven’t had the time to take a bath in the last couple months so today I decided I was going to make the time. Baths are so relaxing and I LOVE having that me time for a little while.

Lesson Learned: Life is too short to not do things that you love. Make time to do things that help you feel relaxed and happy. Balance is key! I have been learning this a lot lately and it is so important. It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Sometimes we need to slow down and take a breath.

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017

Today I am thankful for unproductive nights. Sometimes you need a night where you don’t get anything on your to do list done. Tonight was that kind of night for me after I got home from work and it was great. My boyfriend and I got together with a couple of friends and just hung out. I had a pile of dishes, nothing planned for supper, and a mound of dirty laundry. I’ll probably take care of all of that tonight. Normally I HATE wasting time, but tonight was carefree and very needed.

Lesson Learned: Being productive and accomplishing things off your to do list is so rewarding. It is also a necessity to achieve your dreams and continue functioning every day. However you have to give yourself a break once in a while. I know I had a relaxing day yesterday in the bath, but I still did a lot of work. So today I decided I needed a day off from my blog and any personal to dos. And guess what. My life is still functioning the same!

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017

Today I am thankful for family visits. (Quick warning now, this may also be what I am thankful for on Sunday. But oh well.) My parents and two of their dogs stopped by to visit me after work today. I got to show them all of the progress in the yard and my mom brought over a ton of flower seeds for me. I love seeing my family even if it is for a short period of time. It seriously made my day. My mom and grandma are coming to visit Sunday afternoon and I can’t wait!

Lesson Learned: Be grateful for your family everyday and let them know how much you love and appreciate them. Not everyone has their parents, grandparents, etc. and your family may not be around forever. Make the most out of every chance you get to spend with them.

Today I am thankful for fellow bloggers. As I was browsing pinterest today, an article on cameras caught my eye. This particular article told me about an AMAZING website (or so it sounds) and I am so excited. After I try it out, I will definitely let you all know about the original article and my review of the website! I’m sorry I can’t tell you more now, but I want to make sure it is legit first.

Lesson Learned: I have discovered SO MANY new things through bloggers and youtubers. I strive to be helpful and inspiring like so many others have to me. The internet is a wonderful place full of incredible amounts of information. I want to be part of it and I will be. And if you want to then you can be too!

Friday, May 5th, 2017

Today I am thankful for children. I was babysitting for my boyfriend’s sister tonight and I absolutely love her 3 girls. They are so adorable and a lot of fun (usually). But for the first time tonight I noticed their innocence and the love they have for their mom. It is the most precious thing to see and I long for the day that someone depends and loves me in that way. Years and years from now, but I am very excited.

Lesson Learned: Kids can be difficult to deal with sometimes, to say the least. Even at their worst points, it is our job as a role model to show them love anyways. Teach them to be kind, hard-working, and to stay true to themselves. Children have such impressionable minds and are at such a crucial age. We need to take that seriously.

Saturday, May 6th, 2017

Today I am thankful for relaxing yet busy days. My boyfriend and I spent the day doing small random things. We hung out with his aunt and cousin for a while. Did a little yard work. Ate a lot of food. And just spent the day with each other. It’s really nice to have days like this once in a while.

Lesson Learned: You don’t need to have major plans or spend a bunch of money to have a nice day with friends, family, or your significant other. Just spending time in each others company can be so enjoyable and refreshing. Cherish every moment you are able to spend with others because you never know when it is the last time.

Sunday, May 7th, 2017

Today I am thankful for family. My boyfriend and I spent most of the morning together, just the two of us. We got a ton of much-needed yard work done and played with the cats for too long. It was great.

Later in the day, my boyfriend’s sister and her 3 girls came over to hang out. We always enjoy seeing them and they have a blast coming over.

After they left, my mom and my grandma came over to see the yard and take me out for dinner. It was so nice seeing them and my grandma finally got to see my new house.

Lesson Learned: Similar to Wednesday but spending time with my family just reminds me how blessed I am to have them. Make the most out of every chance you get to spend with those you love!

Foolproof Tips to Effectively Cram for Any Exam

So somewhere during the semester you made some bad decisions. You procrastinated. Maybe you didn’t go to class enough. Or you partied too much. Whatever the reason, it’s almost time for an exam and you’re not ready. I’ve been there way too often in my 3 years of college. These are my foolproof cramming study tips to effectively help you pass every exam.

Cramming Study Tips

Effectively Cram and Pass Every Exam

1. Gather All of your Materials

Before you start studying you need to gather all of your relevant materials. Books, notes, lecture slides, past exams, tests, and quizzes, past assignments, online materials, and anything else with useful information.

Also grab yourself a pencil or pen, highlighters, extra paper, and flashcards if you use them.

If you use flashcards, I highly recommend looking into Quizlet for future semesters!

2. Find your Study Area

Now that you have all of your materials, determine where you are going to study at. Make sure the area if clean and free of any distractions. You don’t have time for anything else right now.

3. No unnecessary Electronics

If possible don’t use any electronics. They are a HUGE way to distract yourself and end up procrastinating. Again you don’t have time for that!

If you have to use your laptop try downloading the materials so you can shut your wi-fi off. If that isn’t an option then you can download a temporary site blocker. This way when you try to go on Facebook or email, you’ll be reminded that you DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THAT!

Also just put your phone somewhere far away from you. Turn it on silent. And don’t pick it up unless you absolutely need to.

4. Take Breaks

This is often overlooked because you have limited time and need to utilize every second of it. WRONG. You need to give your brain a break once in a while. Study for 30 minutes, take a 5 minute break or study for an hour and take a 10 minute break.

Your breaks should be short but frequent. This allows your brain to be able to better retain information.

5. Eat Healthy & Stay Hydrated

You should always do this, but it is especially important before a big exam. Plus it is also easily overlooked when you are cramming. Have salty and sweet snacks readily available to you and drink a lot of water. Eat a good meal the day of your exam as well. Your body needs to be well nourished in order for your brain to work hard.

6. SLEEP

Not sleeping in college is like a trend and every one feels the need to pull all nighters. Don’t do that. Get your sleep!

You will have such better memory if you sleep after you study. You probably don’t have time to get your full 8 hours, but I would shoot for at least 6.

Your body and your brain need their sleep and I promise it will help improve your memory and grade!

7. List of Importance

Before you start studying you should make a list of important terms, concepts, ideas, and key points. You need to know and understand all of the main points taught over the semester. After you get these down then move on to more detailed information.

Learning the main points first will ensure you time to get through them all. I can’t stress how important this is!

8. Make more Notes

After you know your main points, use that list to go more in-depth. Take notes on the things that are harder for you to understand completely. Make sure to visit these things again and focus on these over the simpler things.

9. Teach

They say that the best way to learn something is by teaching it to others. So make a friend or family member sit down while you teach them. Or since you’re short on time, just teach it to an imaginary person.

The point is to try to say it out loud and explain it in a way that someone would understand. This has been extremely helpful for me and is easily the BEST of my cramming study tips.

10. Relax and Dominate your Exam

The last of my cramming study tips is easier said than done, but is so important. At this point there is not any time left to prepare. Instead of worrying because you didn’t study enough, just relax.

You aren’t going to change how much you studied or didn’t study. The only thing you can do now is relax and take the exam the best you can.

The 10 Key Essentials for Library Lock-down and Finals Week

Finals season is among us once again. I don’t know about you guys, but I always feel under-prepared when it comes to time for finals. Personally I always end up spending multiple days for hours and hours at a time, in the library. To me, the library is the place where I can get the most productive amount of work done. To make my time in the library a little more bearable, I have made a list of the key library essentials for finals week and long study sessions.

The Top 10 Key Library Essentials Needed for Finals Week

1. Caffeine

Chances are you’re going to need a little pick me up during your study session. My go to is definitely coffee! However there are also caffeinated teas, sodas, and energy drinks. Another good option is taking a B12 vitamin supplement. These things are life changers in college and are a great way to get extra energy. Plus its the healthiest way to do so!

2. Water

I never go anywhere without my water bottle and it is one of the best habits I have ever developed. Keeping yourself hydrated is SO important! Bring a water bottle, trust me.

3. Snacks

Not just any snacks. You need to bring a variety of things so you have options. Trying to study and focus is near impossible when you are hungry. But you don’t want to have to get up mid study session to go get some food.

Bring salty and sweet snacks that are full of vitamins and minerals. Eating healthy snacks will give you a natural boost of energy. Where if you ate junk food, it is likely to make you tired and unmotivated.

4. Chargers

This one is self-explanatory and so important. It is easily one of the most forgotten things on this list of library essentials. One of the worst things that could happen is to have your laptop die in the middle of studying.

5. Headphones

This one is SO important for me. In order for me to “get into the zone,” I need to have music on and all of the other noises completely blocked out. Make yourself a studying playlist that has some of your favorite songs that aren’t too distracting. If you are easily distracted you might want to try listening to music that doesn’t have any lyrics.

6. Sweatshirt and/or blanket

Oh My Gosh. I cannot tell you how many times I have forgotten a sweatshirt or blanket and my entire study session has been ruined! I am that person that is ALWAYS cold. If I am freezing and uncomfortable then there is NO WAY I will be productive and focused. So just bring one because you never know if you’ll need it.

7. Comfortable Shoes & Clothes

You’re going to the library to study, you’re not going to a fashion show or party. Just dress comfortable. That does NOT mean you have to look ugly. My comfortable outfits are some of my cutest! Get out your yoga pants, jeggings, or leggings. Get an oversized sweatshirt. Grab your comfy tennis and you’re ready to go. It might look like you are ready for the gym, but you’re cute and comfortable!

8. Notes/Books/Flashcards/Laptop (ONLY if needed)

I know what you’re saying… “obviously I’m going to bring my notes, books, and laptop.” Well I didn’t say that this was a list of things you didn’t already know to bring. It is clearly one of the key essentials of a study session, so hush.

Before you leave for the library or your study spot, stop and get organized. Make sure you know what you need to study and that you have ALL the materials you need. Also if you don’t need your laptop to study off of, don’t bring it!

9. Pencils, Highlighters, and Paper

Once again I know you already know to bring these things, but I had to include them because they are a library ESSENTIAL for a study session! Pencils and Highlighters to study and make notes about your notes. And don’t forget extra paper to write down extra important information.

10. Planner/To Do List

The last library essential I have for you all is your planner, to do list, or whatever you use to keep track of upcoming exams, papers, etc. If you don’t have a system, I recommend making a to do list. Even if it is a vague list, it helps a lot to have everything written down. Know what you need to study, how much time you should spend on each subject, and obviously when the exam or paper is due.

Thankful Thursday Week 5: April 24th-April 30th

Thankful Thursday Week 5 is here! Overall this week was pretty good. I finished up my 3rd year of college and I finally got outside to do some yard work. My motivation has been slowly coming back to normal which is GREAT. Work is going back to a normal pace. Summer is right around the corner! Life is good right now and there is nothing major going on. I’ve had time to focus more on my blog so I am doing a HUGE rebranding! So many exciting things in the near future!

Thankful Thursday Week 5

Today I am thankful for all of the people who will always be there in my time of need. Yesterday I realized that I am truly blessed with so many people who are willing to go out of their way when I need them. Not everyone has people in their life like this. My people are mostly family members of me and my boyfriend, but I also have select friends that I can always count on. It’s an extremely comforting feeling and makes life so much better.

Lesson Learned: As we grow older many people disappear from our lives, but those who stay are the ones worth keeping. Find your people who you can trust and count on. Once you find them, hold them close, and cherish your relationship. Life is hard but going through life with others helps a ton!

Today I am thankful for the chance to learn new things. After work today, I spent most of the night studying for my two finals tomorrow. It made me start thinking about how lucky we are to have such wide access to different subjects. If there is something you want to learn more about, chances are you can do so! Whether its online by yourself, in a library, an online course, a blog post, a video, or through an institution. The point is we have so many options to learn new things which is amazing and something we should take advantage of on a daily basis!

Lesson Learned: What is life if we don’t take advantage of it? Try to learn something new each day, even if it something small. Set goals for yourself, expand your mind, live life to the fullest!

Wednesday, April 26th, 2017

Today I am thankful for days when I get to sleep in. Having a full-time job, attending college full-time, and creating a blog on the side means that there aren’t many days where I get to sleep in. So when I finally get one, I cherish it. I had today off from work in order to finish up my 3rd year of college! I slept until about 9:30am and it felt great. I could have still woken up early and got some extra things done, but you need to give your body extra rest sometimes.

Lesson Learned: Push yourself and work hard everyday, but never put your health (mental and physical) on the back burner. Give yourself a rest day from time to time or at least allow yourself a couple extra hours of sleep or Netflix binge watching. You need everything in moderation, and often times rest is overlooked.

Today I am thankful for the indoors. For some reason winter came back today. It snowed and there was a high of 33 degrees. That is ridiculous for the end of April yet still common for Wisconsin. I hate it and I want Spring. So today I spent my day inside, enjoying the warmth, and relaxing. I love and cherish days like this.

Lesson Learned: If the weather isn’t what you want, make the most of it anyways. Take the cold days to relax and cuddle up inside. When it is warm again, get outside and enjoy it!

Friday, April 28th, 2017

Today I am thankful for Kitty Cuddles. I had a really hard day and mentally I was really down. One thing that never fails to cheer me up is when my cats cuddle up to me. Purring and rubbing their faces against mine. It’s one of the best feelings in the world.

Lesson Learned: I just don’t know what kind of life I would have without animals. I love them so much.

Today I am thankful for yard work. I moved into a new house in March so today was the first time we did anything to our yard. Such a HUGE transformation, as you could tell that the last people who lived here did not care at all. We pulled so many weeds, trimmed the trees and bushes, and mowed the lawn.

Lesson Learned: Yard work is such a relaxing way to enjoy the outdoors while also being productive. Seeing the progress made is so rewarding. Plus having a beautiful yard is the same as having a clean house for me. It is just something that makes me feel so much less stressed and at ease. I love it!

Sunday, April 30th, 2017

Today I am thankful for naps. I’m not gonna lie, I used to take naps any chance I got. However I haven’t taken a nap in months, until today.

My boyfriend, his sister, and I ended up staying awake WAY too late last night. This lead to me only getting 3 hours of sleep because I had to work this morning.

When I got home from work I did a few chores around the house and then decided I needed to at least relax for an hour or so. Not surprisingly, that turned into a nap. And BOY DID IT FEEL GOOD! I slept for a couple good hours, wasted part of my day, but felt so much better afterwards!

Lesson Learned: Sometimes you need to give yourself a break. Waste a few hours doing something for yourself and your body. Find moderation in your life so you can be productive while also taking care of yourself.

I can’t believe that this is already my 50th Blog Post! The last 4 months has been such an exciting journey. I have learned so much more than I ever thought I would. The blogging world becomes totally different when you become a creator rather than just a reader. I’ve been very overwhelmed with the huge amount of information available, but I have learned to take it step-by-step. Taking it one day at a time and learning new things every day.

I’ve had a blast connecting with other bloggers and with readers. This is one of my favorite things about blogging. SO if you haven’t reached out to me already, I would love to chat and get to know you all! Contact me through email, leave a comment, or find me on multiple social media platforms!

RECAP

In the past 4 months I have seen steady progress on my blog and social media platforms. I haven’t had any huge growth, but I am still so proud of everything I have accomplished! NONE of this would be possible without all of YOU.

These are just a few (obviously because there are a total of 50). && I am SO EXCITED for the posts coming in the future! Also I would LOVE it if you guys have any ideas or requests for new blog posts!

WHAT TO EXPECT

Moving forward I have a TON of new changes happening! I already started the process so for those of you who visit often, you may have noticed a HUGE change in the look of my website. At first I wasn’t really sure what I wanted my brand to look like or the layout of my website. I finally have it all figured out, for now. It will be a long process, but I am so excited for the end result.

POSTING SCHEDULE

So far I have been trying to build up a decent number of posts on Dreaming With Love. In order to do that I have been posting 3-4 times a week. This will continue for a little longer. However in the near future I plan to post less often so I can focus even more on the quality of the posts. I also plan to go back and edit some of the posts I currently have so the quality is better.

My posts will focus on inspiring and helping young adults survive and thrive in this world!

 

So once again, THANK YOU all for your support and friendship! Dreaming With Love has already shaped my life in HUGE ways and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store. This incredible journey wouldn’t be possible without all of YOU! <3

April 2017 Monthly Recap && May 2017 Monthly Goals

April was a rough month for me, to say the least. So I am hoping that my May 2017 Monthly Goals will be helpful and reachable.

I struggle with anxiety and depression and this month it showed up a lot more than normal. It usually isn’t very severe and is quite manageable, but it still sucks and is no fun. On top of that I have been dealing with a nasty cold that just won’t go away. Needless to say my energy was low this month. However life still goes on and I had such a busy and CRAZY month.

I finished up my 3rd year of college this month (yay!). Work was extra busy because we had our Spring radio auction. I reached a pretty big milestone on Dreaming With Love! Overall my life has been a chaotic mess this month. I am choosing to forget about the disappointments and all of the unmet goals and try again this month.

I am sick of the excuses I continue to create for myself. Sick of putting things off because “the time isn’t right”. This month all of that changes. I’m ready to get my life together. There will be some huge changes on Dreaming With Love and in my life in general. Hopefully when I come back here next month to tell you about May, I’ll have some great news to share! NOW let’s get into my April 2017 recap and my May 2017 monthly goals!

April Recap 2017

I’m not going to lie cause that would defeat the purpose of my monthly recap and goals. I didn’t complete any of my goals this month. Like I said I had a very busy month and still had many accomplishments, but none of which were goals I set for myself.

My depression really took over this month so whenever I had free time from work and school, I didn’t do much. I am going to put all of my April goals onto my May 2017 monthly goals. Sometimes we have bad days, weeks, and months. We just have to remember that it is NOT a bad life and it will pass. Push through, take care of yourself, and try not to worry too much.

Here’s to a GREAT month of May!

 Dreaming With Love Recap

Any progress is progress and I am so proud of the progress I have made on Dreaming With Love! April was the 4th month of my blog and I FINALLY hit a total of 1,000 page views! I know this isn’t a huge accomplishment in 4 months, but I’m still really proud. My numbers grew in most areas this month, including my social media accounts, so that makes me VERY happy! Thank you all SOOOOOO much for supporting me in this crazy journey <3

May is going to be a VERY exciting month for Dreaming With Love! I am doing a HUGE rebranding on my website and all my social media platforms. Finally I feel like I figured out what I want, for now at least. I would love to hear any input you have on my current and new design (coming soon)! But give me a break because I don’t like the current design either, haha. By the time you’re reading this I (hopefully) have done a lot of changing already.

May 2017 Monthly Goals

A lot of these goals will be the same as April’s goals, but there are a few new ones as well. Also if you want help creating achievable goals, I wrote a post with some of my best tips!

1. Start Newsletter

It’s finally going to happen. I did my research and chose the platform I am going to use. I hope to get at least 5 people signed up during May so keep your eye out for a sign up form!

In the beginning I won’t send out very many, maybe 2 a month? But I know I want to include exclusive content, access to free resources, updates, and an overview of what is going on with Dreaming With Love.

2. Finish (at least) 1 Crochet Project

I haven’t decided what I want to crochet yet, but it will be something small because I’m not very good yet. I think I want to make something for mother’s day. Also if possible I would like to do a few more projects this month. Follow me on Instagram to see pictures of the finished projects!

3. Read (at least) 1 book

I want to try to get back in the habit of reading a little bit every day or every other day. This month I want to finish one book and to ease myself back into reading I decided to pick an easier and shorter book than normal. I am going to read Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I’ve had this book for a long time, but have never read it. I’m very excited to get back into reading.

4. Daily Journal

Daily journaling is SO freeing and helpful for me. I haven’t done it in months and I don’t know why. I used to do it first thing in the morning for about 30 minutes while I drank my coffee. It’s something that helped me cope with the ideas and thoughts going on in my mind and I really miss it. If you struggle with any mental health problems I think it is especially helpful for that!

I plan on getting back into a morning routine this month so hopefully I am able to stick to it!

5. Stop Biting Nails

I haven’t done so in about a week which is a huge accomplishment for me! If you read my April Favorites then you know I have been using Nail Envy Nail Strengthener from OPI and it has been a game changer. This polish strengthens my nails while also being a reminder throughout the day to NOT bite my nails.

This has been testing my will power, but I really want to stick to it! I hate being so embarrassed of my gross nails. I will post a before and after picture eventually, but for now they are still too gross. Haha.

6. Scholarships

Finals consumed my life in April so I wasn’t able to start applying to scholarships yet, which sucks. This month I want to make a list of all the scholarships I want to apply to over the summer (I’ll probably add to it as time goes on). Then I also want to apply to at least 5 scholarships this month. Wish me luck! && I’d love it if you have any tips on finding and applying to scholarships!

7. Make a Gardening Plan

I feel like I am getting a late start on this, but I’ve never had any kind of garden before so I’m not really sure. I want to do some research and make a plan for what I want to plant, when to plant it, and how to take care of it. Nothing too fancy, but a few easy vegetables would be awesome for my first garden! Please let me know any tips you have!

8. 30 Day Fitness Challenge

I posted a 30 Day Bikini Body Fitness Challenge that I was supposed to do during April, but I didn’t at all. However, I started it yesterday and really hope I can stick to it!

9. Get my Life Together

This may sound like a very vague goal, but I have a plan! May is going to be a month of decluttering and organizing in my home! Along with that I have started putting together a budget binder, a life binder, and a new and improved blog binder!

Plus I am incorporating a morning, night, and cleaning routines! Routines really help me keep my life on track so I am SO excited to be bringing them back!

April was a good month for discovering new monthly favorites! The month didn’t go as planned what so ever and it was a very busy and crazy month. My April 2017 monthly favorites will show you just how crazy of a month it was. Mostly due to being sick basically the ENTIRE month. Along with that I finished up my 3rd year of college and had an extremely busy month at work.

APRIL 2017 MONTHLY FAVORITES

YOUTUBERS

I have been watching videos from NateWantsToBattle for a few years now. Recently I have been watching them a lot more again. I am a pretty big nerd and his pokemon parodies are some of my favorite songs to jam out to in the car. If you are into video games or enjoy fantastic music then I highly recommend NateWantsToBattle! He just came out with his first album and he is SO talented! Plus he puts SO much hard work into all of his content!

Sarah’s channel popped up in my recommended a few months ago and since I have become obsessed. When I first found her channel it was largely about minimalism and veganism so it isn’t the typical type of channel I like to watch. Yet I did anyways.

Since then she has been focusing more on inspirational messages and tips on how to follow and conquer your dreams. She is so inspiring and I absolutely LOVE her positive attitude! Watching her videos brighten up my mood instantly!

I may be a little biased because she is from Wisconsin, but she is seriously so great!

PlantBasedMatt is Sarah’s husband and he has a similar outlook on life as her. His channel is mainly about veganism, which I have grown more and more interested in since watching them. He only recently started his channel and I LOVE seeing how quickly he is improving in front of the camera!

If you are interested in veganism or living a healthier life then I HIGHLY recommend PlantBasedMatt!

Oh my gosh! This girl gives me so much happiness! She is the sweetest human being ever and makes the CUTEST art projects!

Honestly though she is so incredibly talented! I also love that she will ALWAYS tell it how it is and ALWAYS tell us the honest truth. Her videos are so much fun to watch and I recommend them to anyone who needs a little cheering up!

APPS

  • Google Photos

Google Photos has been a HUGE life saver for me! I have decided to try a little on my Instagram so my memory on my phone has been filling up FAST. Google Photos is a way for me to have the photos and videos on my phone AND computer without taking up extra memory space! I love it so much!

And having access to my photos on any device QUICKLY and EASILY has been amazing! HIGHLY recommend!

  • Risk

I’m sure most of you know about the board game Risk. Well they made it into an app and it now takes up a lot of my time.

  • Musical.ly

Yes I know, I’m super late on this one. I had the app when it was first popular, but deleted it soon after. Now I’m obsessed!

It’s so much fun watching and getting inspiration from other’s videos. && I have a blast making fun videos of me and my kitties. Haha!

  • Burrito Bison

I was SO excited about this one! I used to play this game on the computer and now it’s an app. YAY! More ways for me to procrastinate….

Haha but honestly this is a fantastic game. One game of it doesn’t take long to play so it’s one of the better apps to procrastinate on.

TV SHOWS

  • Weeds

This was recommended to me by one of my friends and I have been loving it. I LOVE that it has a female lead. The show keeps you in suspense sometimes and overall has a good story-line.

  • 13 Reasons Why

I hopped on this bandwagon late and I’m about half way through the season… Still not sure how I feel about it. I already know how it ends because some JERK spoiled it for me. I think the concept for the show is really good, but I’m indifferent about how they went about some of the stuff. But I am going to continue watching and I’ll let you know my final thoughts.

  • Grey’s Anatomy

Yes I know this has been in my past couple of favorites posts, but guess what?? It’s in my April 2017 monthly favorites too!

Still one of my favorite shows even though half of the cast is dead or gone.

FOOD

  • Peeps

What is an April 2017 monthly favorites post without including peeps?

Don’t judge me. Yes I am one of the few people on the planet that likes peeps. So when Easter comes around each year I get more than one person should have.

This year I also incorporated them into an Easter Dessert!

  • Apples

My two food favorites this month are completely opposite.. Haha! I have really been loving apples for a snack though! Most of this month I have been cutting up an apple and bringing it with me after lunch to snack on at work. They taste great, they are healthy for you, and they are VERY affordable! What’s not to like?

BEAUTY PRODUCTS

  • Renpure Originals Coconut Water Mist

I ran out of leave-in conditioner in the beginning of April and when I went to buy the same stuff I have been loving and using for months, the store was all out. So I took a risk and bought this leave-in treatment from Renpure Originals. Now I LOVE it! It smells great, leaves my hair smooth and soft, and removes the tangles so well! Plus it was very inexpensive!

  • OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener

If you read my April monthly goals then you know I am trying to stop biting my nails, it is such a NASTY habit. My mom gave me a bottle of the nail envy nail strengthener from OPI and it has been helping a ton! Having it on my nails not only strengthens them, but also reminds me to NOT bite my nails!

If your nails are weaker than you want, this stuff works miracles!

  • Tarte Maracuja Oil

Still LOVING this oil! Still have the same tiny bottle that I first received. I wrote an entire review on it HERE if you wanna know more about it!

WEBSITES

I’ve loved pinterest for years now. However, this month I have been spending a ton of time on it again. It’s literally the best! So I just HAD to include it in my April 2017 monthly favorites.

I’m sure most of you already know what it is, but for those who don’t it is basically a visual search engine. I get all of my best ideas on every topic from Pinterest! I’d love it if you all checked out my Pinterest profile && leave a link to your pinterest in the comments so I can check out your profile as well!

This site is AWESOME and I know there are other sites similar, but this is my most favorite. Basically it just has every color scheme ever and you can even create your own! You can search for them with certain colors or keywords and I just love it! There is something so calming about seeing beautiful color schemes! && it makes it much easier to create beautiful graphics!

OTHER (LIFESTYLE)

  • DayQuil + NyQuil

If you follow me on twitter then you know I’ve been sick the majority of April. DayQuil and NyQuil were my best friends for a couple of weeks so I had to include them.

  • Rice Pack

I don’t think I’ve ever used my rice pack as much as I did this month. It has been such a BLESSING to have! The sickness has made my entire body sore and the rice pack has helped so much! If you don’t have one, go get one OR they are SUPER easy to make if you know basic sewing.

  • Cough Drops

My sickness passed, but the terrible and annoying cough is STILL here. Cough drops and water are the only things that help. Hoping it goes away soon!

  • Thankful Thursdays

This month I started a new series called Thankful Thursdays and just posted week 4 yesterday! I have been LOVING this series because it has been holding me accountable to really take a step back and be thankful for the little things in life. Now I don’t know if you all are enjoying it or not, but it has been helping me a ton. Check it out and I highly recommend for everyone to do something similar!

Too often in life we only look at everything going bad instead of all of the things going right. They are so easy to overlook, but we need to be reminded of all the things in life to be thankful for!

Thankful Thursday Week 4

Monday, April 17th, 2017

Today I am thankful for those who believe in me. Most of you probably don’t know, but video production is my main passion. I LOVE blogging and sharing my thoughts through written words. However ultimately video and film is what I really want to pursue (hence my major being film and media studies).

I haven’t started sharing any of my film work because it just isn’t where I want it to be yet. I still don’t have a nice camera and am saving towards that goal (hopefully very soon!). Then I will be starting my YouTube channel and sharing my journey with all of you.

A lot of people don’t really understand my passion and the goals I have. They don’t think they are realistic or achievable for a small town girl like me. Well today I had a long talk with my boss (who has worked in the film industry for a long time) and hearing from him that he believes in me is HUGE. I am now doing a video project for the him and the radio station I work at and am so excited!

Lesson Learned: Those who don’t understand your passion may doubt your goals, not because of who you are but because they don’t get it. Ignore them and show them that you are more than capable! Surround yourself with those who do believe in you and those who continue to push and inspire you!

Today I am thankful for progress! I hit 1,000 total views on my blog today. I know that is not very good for 3.5 months of blogging, but I am so proud of myself. My progress is steadily growing and even if it is very slowly, I am still so happy and thankful! I have learned SO much in these past 3.5 months with so much more to learn. So excited for what the future has to bring!

Lesson Learned: Any progress is still progress and is always better than nothing. I have a hard time comparing myself to others, but have been focusing on competing with myself instead. Every month I have improved and that is what matters! I am better than I was yesterday. <3

Wednesday, April 19th, 2017

Today I am thankful for rain. Now I absolutely LOVE sunshine, but rain once in a while is SO relaxing. We haven’t had rain in so long and we don’t really get it that often. I enjoy storms and rainy days.

Lesson Learned: Some days the weather sucks and sometimes it is “perfect”. Either way, we can’t control it. Enjoy the beauties of each season and all-weather.

Today I am thankful for a place to go home to. This week has been CRAZY at work. Extra hours, busy ALL day long, just plain crazy. Having a place to go home and finally relax is just an amazing feeling. It’s often something I overlook, but I really am so grateful for it.

Lesson Learned: There are SO many things to be grateful for on a daily basis. Having a home is a BLESSING.

Today I am thankful for the ability to have a job. I had to work an extra 3 hours today and 5 hours tomorrow, on Saturday morning… GROSS. However, I am lucky enough to even have a job. I know multiple people who don’t have jobs for various reasons and if it was up to them they would have one. Yet it is still something I overlook every day.

Lesson Learned: Again there are SO many things to be grateful for everyday. Having a job and the ability to have a job is a BLESSING. Even though I complain about my job often, I still need to be grateful on the daily!

Today I am thankful for traditions. I was able to be a part of a long tradition for the first time and I also took part in a repeating tradition that my brother and I have had for years.

This morning I participated in my first Radio Auction at work. It was “organized chaos” and surprisingly I had a lot of fun. I enjoy that kind of fast paced environment.

After work I headed to my parents to meet up with my brother. We headed to Minnesota to the iMax theater to see The Fate of the Furious. We go see each new movie of the series in the iMax theater, now that we are older. When we were younger we just saw them at the theater haha.

Lesson Learned: Value every tradition, big or small. They are a comforting thing in life that we should be grateful for.

Today I am thankful for my immediate family. I’m always thankful for them, but today I especially was. I stayed the night at my parents last night after the movie. Slept in. Then enjoyed my coffee and talked with my mom. Then I cooked out with my dad and brother for lunch. It was a really relaxing day and I loved it.

Lesson Learned: Enjoy time with your family every chance you get and cherish every moment!

My favorite time of the month, April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing! For those of you who have never heard of Ipsy, it is a monthly subscription. It costs $10 per month and in return you receive a makeup bag with 4-5 samples. I love it and it is almost always worth the $10! This month’s bag is quite different from past bags, but I really like it. It’s probably just the film obsessed part of me that likes it so much. My mom gave her bag away as soon as she received it, haha. I’m not sure if I will use it as a bag or just decoration, but part of me really likes it.

OFRA Cosmetics Rendezvous Blush

Blush is one of my favorite products to use so I always get a little excited when I receive a new one. This blush is a very natural tone and has a slight brown tone (the picture does not show true color). I normally go for more pink and red tones for blush, but I am excited to try something new. I’ve also never used this brand which is always very exciting. However, it is a very small size and comes without a compact, which is kind of annoying.

WHEN I TRIED IT

Like I said this is a very natural looking blush, but I really like it. This will be perfect for my minimal makeup days. It blends out very smoothly and lasts all day long.

April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing

MintPear Vitamin C Serum

This product is very interesting to me and I’m not sure how to feel about it. It is a Vitamin C Serum that is supposed to “lighten, tighten, and brighten” your skin. The bottle is a very small size (like everything else in this month’s bag) but I should be able to get a decent amount of uses out of it. It doesn’t have a very strong smell, but the scent that it does have is not very good.

WHEN I TRIED IT

I used this every night for a week and was SO impressed with the results. Even the first morning I noticed a difference in the color of my face! I deal with redness in my face and this lighten the red color so much. I will definitely be repurchasing this product and continuing to use it to see if it will continue to improve my skin.

Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Glow Shimmer Shadow & Highlighter

A BEAUTIFUL shadow AND highlighter from Elizabeth Mott. I am very excited for this product! It is also a small size, but as a shadow/highlighter it will last a long time. It is a gorgeous color, but it is a little more natural looking than most of my highlighters. However it will be GORGEOUS on the inner corner of my eyes! Overall I am happy and very excited about this product.

WHEN I TRIED IT

This product is SO GORGEOUS and lasts all day long! I absolutely love it and I hope it lasts me a long time! Elizabeth Mott never fails me.

I LOVE receiving new eyeliners because I have yet to find the “perfect” one. Trying different types of formula and applicators is always good because it helps me know what I like and don’t like. This liner has a very nice pigment and goes on easily. I am excited to give it a try to see how long it lasts on my oily eyelids!

WHEN I TRIED IT

It isn’t my favorite applicator for liquid eyeliner but the product is so nice. It lasts all day even on my oily eyelids! I’m going to play around with it a little more and hopefully I will start to like the brush tip more.

I always enjoy trying new skin care products so I was pretty excited about this product. It is a very small size, once again, but I should be able to get a few uses from it.

WHEN I TRIED IT

After using this for a few days, I was neither impressed nor disappointed. It’s a decent face butter, but it doesn’t do anything extra special for me. If I had a bigger size and was able to use it for longer, maybe I would like it better.

I wasn’t very impressed with my April Ipsy. All of the products are something new to me (which is awesome), but they are also all very small sizes. The bag is different, but I like it. Also most of the brands are new to me so that is great as well. I have nothing to really complain about, except the sizes of the products, but I also don’t have anything I am super excited about. It wasn’t a terrible bag, but it wasn’t great either.

Thankful Thursday Week 3

Thankful Thursday Week 3

Thankful Thursday Week 3 is here! I had a very relaxing week because I was feeling a little under the weather for most of it (and now I am again too). I didn’t do a whole lot, but some weeks are like that and we still need to be thankful for all we have!

Thankful Thursday Week 3

Monday, April 10th

Today I am thankful for Lysol. If you read last week’s Thankful Thursday or if you follow me on twitter then you already know that I was super sick yesterday and part of today.

When I woke up this morning I was feeling quite a bit better, but nowhere near 100%. So I decided to take advantage of it and get some cleaning/disinfecting done.

Whenever someone in the house is sick, I always try to disinfect everything as soon as possible. So I got out the Lysol and went to work. I ended up deep cleaning the entire house before my sickness got too bad again.

Lesson Learned: ALWAYS look for the positives in a situation and take advantage of them!

Tuesday, April 11th

Today I am thankful for sewing kits and good friends. This probably sounds super weird, but bare with me.

After work both my boyfriend and I had some work to do down in the basement. His cousin and best friend also ended up coming over to help out. I finished painting my new vanity and they began making a projector stand.

Long story short, this project became a lot more work than we had thought. I quickly taught my boyfriend basic sewing. Everyone had their own task.

One of my favorite things in life is to see people come together and work as a team to get something done. That’s exactly what was happening in my basement and it made my heart melt.

We didn’t finish the projector stand yet, but that’s not the point.

Lesson Learned: Life is better with true friends by your side. Friends that will help you out no matter how small or big of a problem. Appreciate those in your life, they are all there for a reason. To have a good friend, you first need to be a good friend.

Wednesday, April 12th

Today I am thankful for alone time. I very rarely have the entire house together so when I finally do, I cherish it.

Being an introvert I gain more energy from alone time. I don’t want to be alone at all times, but once in a while is nice.

Normally my alone time is spent in front of the TV, food by my side, and cuddles with my kitties. Nothing eventful, but still one of my favorite things to do.

Lesson Learned: Enjoy planned activities but never forget to allow yourself to have alone time. If alone time is impossible, then at least set aside time to do nothing productive. Allow your mind to be clear and your body to relax. Life is all about balance.

Thursday, April 13th

Today I am thankful for comfort movies and the ability to cry. Without going into detail, I’m just going to say that today was a VERY rough day. Luckily it ended pretty well.

At about 9:00pm I decided to give up on the day. I had a good cry, got myself some comfort food, and put on my favorite movie. Disney movies or kid movies of any kind are usually the most comforting to me.

Lesson Learned: You WILL have bad days, but it’s just a bad DAY not a bad life. Allow them to happen and do what you need to get through the day. Also sometimes you just need a good cry. All of us tend to hold things in and we are all going through a lot. So just go cry! It seriously helps so much.

Friday, April 14th

Today I am thankful for Tylenol PM. So I don’t know what is going on with me.

If you read Thankful Thursday Week 2 then you know I was sick last Sunday and Monday. My entire body ached, my throat was sore, I was nauseous, and I had the WORST headache.

Tonight the headache came back on only one side of my head? And my neck hurt SO bad again.

I finally had to go lay down in bed, but it was early and I wasn’t very tired. I watched YouTube for a little while, but then the light was making my head hurt more.

The headache was getting worse. I just wanted to go to sleep.

I decided to take a Tylenol PM (I try not to take medicine until I absolutely need to) and I fell asleep not to long after. THANK GOD!

Lesson Learned: Even though I don’t like taking medicine all the time, it is still there available to me when I need it. We complain about the pharmaceutical companies and the medical system in general in the US. Everything here costs WAY more than any other country, for no good reason but to make the companies more money off of SICK people in NEED. But whatever that’s not the point. The point is that some places these things aren’t even accessible and a bad headache is he least of their problems. I complain, rightfully, whenever I get sick, but I still need to be thankful for my good health. And access to medicine when I need it.

Sorry for the rant. That happens sometimes.

Saturday, April 15th

Today I am thankful for zero plans. For the first time in a VERY long time, I didn’t leave the house at all today and it was GREAT. I got a ton of cleaning done, homework finished, and a lot of work on my blog done. I didn’t have any set plans for the day when I woke up so I just went with the flow.

Lesson Learned: Give yourself days once in a while where you have zero plans. Get things done that are otherwise neglected, but also make time to relax and enjoy the day.

Sunday, April 16th

Today I am thankful for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I’ve never mentioned on my blog before, but I am a Christian and I accepted Christ into my life in September 2015. I plan to eventually post my testimony on this website. I’ve also thought of doing posts related to this HUGE part of my life. Let me know if you all would be interested in that!

I hope you all had a Blessed Easter!

Lesson Learned: Being able to spend an entire holiday dedicated to our savior with family and friends is a HUGE blessing. Living in a place with religious freedom is often overlooked and taken for granted.

The Ultimate List of Study Hacks you Need to Pass Every Exam

It’s that time of year again… time to start studying for finals. I’m a junior in college this year and I’ve learned a lot of finals week study hacks and overall college study tips throughout the years.

I have piled together my best college study tips so that you can all learn from my mistakes! I hope these help and good luck on finals everyone!

PERFECT for Finals

  • Relax

First thing first, just relax. This is NOT the end of the world and you can do this! It will be a lot of hard work, but it will be so worth it. Take a few deep breaths and lets begin.

  • Start Early to Avoid Cramming

This one seems obvious yet I am so terrible at it. In the beginning of the semester write down all of the exams and big projects you have. Plan ahead and give yourself more than enough time to be prepared.

  • Meet with Your Professors

For some reason it took me almost 2 years in college to figure this one out… even though people told me to do it all the time. I didn’t really understand how beneficial it was until I did it.

Before you go to visit them, write down certain topics or specific questions that you don’t fully understand. Most professors are so happy that you came to them for help… that is what they are there for.

  • Join a Study Group

This is something that should be done at the beginning of the semester to be most effective. However, often times study groups are formed just for midterms and finals. Talk to some students in your class and get together.

Share notes, ask questions, dig deeper into the material than you would alone. Different people see things differently so hearing their take away on certain topics can be really beneficial.

Plus it’s a nice motivation to have others studying for the same thing as you.

  • Teach a Pretend Audience

It has been proven that the best way to learn something is by teaching it to others. If you have a friend or family member that is willing to listen to you teach them then do that! However, if no one wants to listen to you explain why the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell, then just teach a pretend audience.

Your roommates might think your crazy, but trust me when I say that it helps so much! I wish I would have learned this earlier.

  • Find a Good Place to Study

The perfect place to study can be different for everyone. Some people like the library, others like to find a nice place outside in nature, and some like to seclude themselves from any and all distractions.

Find what works for you and go there!

  • Switch up Your Location

Now that I had you find your perfect study spot, find another one or a couple more. Switching up where you are studying can be extremely refreshing. If you’re in one place for too long, your brain can just start going through the motions rather than absorbing all of the information.

  • Know Your Distractions & Avoid Them

Find out what most easily distracts you. For me it is social media, email, games on my phone, and pretty much anything that can make me procrastinate.

Now avoid them! For me I have to turn my phone completely off and put it away. I also try to avoid using my laptop as much as possible. Sometimes there are online materials I need. If possible I download them so that I can turn the WiFi off on my computer. Then when I involuntarily open up the internet to check facebook, I am reminded by the “no connection” that I NEED to study.

  • Have a Clean Area to Work

This goes hand in hand with avoiding distractions. The more things in your work area, the more likely you are to be distracted.

However, another reason to have a clean area to work is just peace of mind. Once in a while I study from home at my desk. If my desk or room is messy, it adds unnecessary stress. I feel much more productive when I clean before I study.

  • Take Breaks

This is SO important and I never used to do it, but it really does help you retain information better. Find a schedule that works best for you. Mine depends on the subject that I am studying. Somewhere between 45-60 minutes of studying with a 5-20 minute break.

During your breaks make sure you get everything you need (water, snacks, etc.), go to the bathroom, stretch your legs, and just relax. Personally I use this time for all of the previous things plus checking social media (so that it is less likely to distract me during study time).

  • Reward Yourself

You have been working so hard and you deserve a reward. Seriously set up a system where your hard work gets rewarded (in addition to a good grade on your exam). I normally reward myself with ONE Netflix show after I finish the designated time I set up for a subject. After the ONE show, I start studying the next subject.

Your reward should be something that allows your brain to relax for a bit. It also shouldn’t take up too much time because there is too much to get done.

  • Take Care of Yourself First

THIS.IS.SO.IMPORTANT.

Do NOT put your mental and physical health on the back burner just because you need to study. This happens way too often and actually makes it harder for you to retain the information you are studying.

Get PLENTY of sleep, get some exercise (even if it is light stretching), drink A LOT of water, and eat healthy! I like to have salty and sweet snacks easily accessible to me while I am studying. So head to your local store and pick up some healthy snacks for your study session.

One of the biggest and most common mistake students make is pulling an all nighter in order to get more studying done. This will hurt you more than it helps. Your body needs sleep in order for your short-term memory to work properly.

  • Make a Reasonable Study Schedule

This is also a huge one that I struggled with for a long time. I would always schedule WAY too much stuff to get done in a day. At the end of the day I would feel defeated and inadequate. It also made the next day extremely difficult to find the motivation I needed.

Plan out the things you want to study and when you want to study each thing. Scheduling less is better! If you accomplish everything on your schedule with more time left in your day then review material that you don’t feel as comfortable with or start on tomorrow’s schedule.

  • Don’t Focus on What you Know

Before you start studying, go through the material you need to know for your final or exam. Categorize things into what you completely understand, kind of understand, and don’t understand at all.

Review the things you completely know, but don’t spend too much time on it. Most of your time should be dedicated to the material that is the hardest for you to understand and remember.

  • Disconnect Before Bedtime

If you are using a laptop or anything else electronic to study, try to put it away at least an hour before you go to sleep. Study off your notes, books, flashcards, anything but electronics.

Even if you want to stop studying an hour before bed and read a book, listen to music or a podcast, or something else relaxing that doesn’t involve looking at a screen.

You’ll be able to fall asleep faster which means more sleep!

30 Day Gallon Water Challenge Review

Hi everyone! If you didn’t already know I decided to start the 30 Day Gallon Water Challenge on March 17th (if you haven’t seen that post, check it out here!). It has now been 30 days so I am writing my 30 Day Gallon Water Challenge Review! Let’s just get right into it.

30 Day Gallon Water Challenge REVIEW

Can I just start by saying I am SO GLAD these 30 days are over. My bladder will be so thankful and I am beyond excited to go back to peeing a normal amount of times. Before this challenge I almost never woke up in the middle of the night to pee. Well that’s impossible to do when you’re drinking a gallon of water a day. I’m pretty sure my coworkers started getting concerned as well.

Don’t get me wrong though, there were also a lot of benefits from this challenge. However, I believe that you could receive these benefits with a normal amount of water every day. I am going to aim for half a gallon of water each day and I think that will be a perfect amount. Not an excessive amount of peeing yet still fully hydrated.

Changes I Noticed

  • Huge increase in amount of times peeing per day

This one was obvious yet still very annoying. I knew I would pee a lot more, but I didn’t know it would be this excessive. Very inconvenient.

  • Better sleep?/More Energy

I can’t necessarily say I got better sleep because I had to get up in the middle of the night at least once a night to pee. However, I did feel much more energized in the morning and throughout the day!

  • Clearer Skin

I was blessed with pretty good skin, but I do have texture bumps on my face, arms, and legs. I also struggle with blackheads. Throughout this challenge I didn’t change my skin care at all, but I definitely noticed an improvement in my skin! The texture bumps were smaller and fewer in number and the blackheads also diminished in number.

  • Decreased appetite

I’ve heard before that many times when you think you’re hungry, you’re actually thirsty. Apparently your body gets the same sort of feeling for both thirst and hunger. That could be a lie, but I remember hearing that. Either way during this challenge I was hungry way less often throughout the day. Diet tip: drink a lot of water.

  • Bloating

This was expected and I was not surprised what so ever. Drinking a gallon of water a day really adds on some water weight, obviously.

Final Thoughts

I highly doubt I will ever do this challenge again. It did teach me how important water is for our bodies and how much it can actually affect. From now on I will be aiming to drink at least a half-gallon of water a day. I think that it a good amount to aim for in order to get less of the bad side effects.

Overall Lesson Learned: Drink lots of water, but not a gallon a day.

Hey everyone! If you’ve been reading my blog for the past month or two then you know I normally (keyword is normally) post Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Well when I planned out the month of April, for some reason I didn’t schedule anything for today, Friday, April 14th.

However I went to my favorite store the other day, I’m sure you can guess by the title that store is Dollar Tree.  So I decided I would do a small Dollar Tree Haul and Product Review rather than not posting anything.

As a new blogger I have been trying to write mainly posts that offer value, advice, tips, etc. to my readers in order to build my audience (it hasn’t been working very well, but that’s not the point). This post will probably have little to no value for most of you. I will write it anyways because I enjoy it. So for those of you here, I hope you enjoy my small Dollar Tree Haul!

Spray Bottle

As far as I’m concerned, a spray bottle is a spray bottle. If it does its job (spray water) and doesn’t break right away then it’s a good one!

To be honest I don’t know how much spray bottles are at other stores. Obviously I got this one for $1. It doesn’t feel cheap whatsoever and so far is totally worth the money.

These are so cute, but are not really reusable. I bought them to make some Easter Dirt Cake Cups and they worked perfectly!

However as I was washing one, it cracked really easily. I plan to be extra careful as I wash the next ones. You get 12 of them for only $1 so I won’t be too upset if they aren’t reusable.

I bought a white one a couple of years ago, but our nasty water left residue all over it. Since it was only $1 I decided it was time for a new one.

Without it I have the hardest time drying my silverware and plates. Seriously this is a life changer!

I have never gotten sponges from the Dollar Tree before because I am always afraid that the quality will suck. So I saw these ones and decided to give them a try.

I LOVE them! Seriously the best sponges I have used. I love that they are twice as thick. The quality is similar to the ones from Walmart, but they are way cheaper.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

We ran out of Tums the other day so I decided to get these and give them a try.

Again I’m not sure if we saved any money buying them from the Dollar Tree. However they do work just as well as Tums!

Cat Food

My two kitties eat primarily dry food. Once in a while I get some soft food for a treat and they love it!

As I was in the pet aisle, I saw this food and just had to pick one up for them. It is cheaper at the Dollar Store, but you get the same product!

I’m not sure if this brand is good or not, but please let me know if you do! I’m never 100% sure what I am supposed to be looking at when I buy pet food.

Yes it’s my favorite purchase of the day.

Also pet clothing at any other store is an outrageous price! $1 pet shirts are the way to go!

As you can see, you get a ton of them so even when they lose them under the fridge and stove, you can just grab another one!

My boyfriend ran out of his Axe 3 in 1 Shampoo the other day and has been using my shampoo since. So we decided that he could try this knock off version since it was only $1.00.

That is kind of my thinking with everything at the Dollar Store. “Might as well try it because if it doesn’t work it’s only $1 and if it does work, we saved money.”

So far he hasn’t had any complaints and said he hasn’t noticed a difference between this and Axe (YAY)! If your guy is picky, he might have some complaints, but it is hard to say until you give it a try. Plus this stuff smells GREAT!

I needed a new hair brush so I thought I’d give this one a try. So far I LOVE it. GREAT quality, comparable to my last Conair wet brush, highly recommend!

My boyfriend has an obsession with ducks so anytime I see duck items, I have to get them! We needed a soap dispenser in our bathroom anyways so this is perfect and SO cute! I also have the matching toothbrush holder and soap dish (that I use as a spoon holder on the stove).

This one is a little bit of an inside joke between my boyfriend and I. However it is a cute night-light and it does the job well (lighting up the night).
