Love is NOT a Choice.

Love is NOT a Choice.

If you have not yet watched the short film, In A Heartbeat, then click here and go watch it. It’s only a little over 4 minutes long, I’ll wait…

Short Film Review In A Heartbeat {Dreaming With Love}

Isn’t it INCREDIBLE?!?! My heart is so happy! This short film is so beautifully made and even with no dialogue, In A Heartbeat said so much! Basically, 2 college students, Beth David and Esteban Bravo, created this amazing short film and it has blown up on the internet. I was so happy as I watched the short film because it is such a great way to help start the conversation about LGBTQ!

The LGBTQ community is rarely represented in media (film, television, etc.) so when they are represented as part of the main story, just like In A Heartbeat, we can see that strides are being made.

It is 2017 for crying out loud, by now there should be a ton of films that correctly represent LGBTQ and all minority groups!

I love that this film shows the heartbreak and embarrassment of this little boy because those feelings are all too true and all too often overlooked. I am not part of the LGBTQ community but I have many family members and close friends who are, so watching this film was so wonderful to finally see.

While I was watching In A Heartbeat, I could only think about one thing.

No one should ever have to “come out” because we shouldn’t be assuming that everyone is straight until they tell us otherwise. By now we know that a large number of humans do not identify as straight so why are we still considering it “the norm”?

Why are we still forcing heterosexuality into the heads of children?

Our society makes it seem that if you’re not straight then you’re not normal. This leads to more confusion and bullying which leads to loads of negative outcomes. All because someone loves someone they “aren’t supposed to”.

NEWS FLASH: Love is NOT a choice!

Love is Not a Choice In A Heartbeat Review {Dreaming With Love}

Also, LOVE is LOVE no matter who the two people are. Shouldn’t we just be happy that other people are happy??

It’s about time that media and society as a whole start to represent every single group EQUALLY. We need more shows and movies where “normal” people aren’t heterosexual and it isn’t the end of the world. By doing this we will help the LGBTQ children feel less alone/different and it should even lessen the bullying.

At the very least it will help start more conversations which really is the most important thing we can do right now.

Raise awareness. Educate anyone who will listen. Always keep trying.

Media has SO much control and I’m afraid that the majority of it is being used in a negative way. It has the ability to start everyday conversations, but the conversations that are being started are negative and overall unhelpful.

Shouldn’t society be utilizing the tool of media in a more positive and uplifting way? In a way that betters our society as a whole rather than making it worse?

When will this change?

How can we help bring about change faster?

Where do we go from here?

Dreaming With Love Short Film Review for In A Heartbeat

What are your thoughts on In A Heartbeat?

I truly want to hear your thoughts. Even if we can start a conversation between us, that can lead to more. Plus, I love hearing your point of views as well!

I look forward to talking with all of you!

A Look into My Life: Radio Show

A Look into My Life: Radio Show

TIME FOR A RAMBLING POST

Today is the day I start my radio show.

I NEVER even imagined that I would ever be on the radio let alone have my own show.

That is until last summer when I made it a goal of mine.

My Radio Show

A LITTLE BACKGROUND:

I started working at this radio station last summer as an intern. Majoring in communications, I thought experience in radio would be PERFECT. I had an incredible summer and learned so much. The job had (and still has) a lot of surprises, but it keeps me on my toes and keeps things exciting.

Towards the end of the summer, I told myself that I WOULD have my radio show at some point in life. Even if it was for a short period of time, I knew that I wanted to have one and that I eventually would.

And I was lucky enough to get the opportunity much sooner than I thought I would.

After the summer, I went back to Madison where I was attending college. That fall semester I went through a lot of struggles and made the decision to transfer to ASU Online (if you’d like to know why I’ll be writing a post on it very soon). Going to online school allowed me to move back closer to my parents until I finish school. So I decided to get in contact with the owner of the radio station and see if there was a position available.

Originally he wanted me to do full-time sales… I’m majoring in film and media studies and have ZERO desire to do any type of sales EVER. In addition to that, there was no way I was going to work full-time while attending school full-time (huge props to those who do it but it’s unnecessary for me).

So I turned down the position and began looking for a different job.

A couple of days later the owner of the radio station got in touch with me again and offered me a flex position as the administrative assistant. I was hesitant, but I accepted and am glad I did.

Fast forward a few months

The sales manager/morning show host moved on to another job. We recently hired a new sales manager, but the morning show still hadn’t been filled. This isn’t a huge issue, but our listeners miss having a morning show.

That’s where I come in.

My Radio Show - Me in the studio

Starting TODAY I have my own radio show on WJBL 93.1 The Dice.

My radio show is every Monday through Friday from ten to noon central time! If you’re interested in listening, you can tune us in at wldywjbl.co or find us on the Mixlr App!

I can’t begin to explain the rush of emotions I’ve felt since finding this out in the middle of July.

First I was excited.

Next, my nerves kicked in full blast (but I’m a master at not showing how nervous I am).

In order to better prepare me, one of the things I did is fill in for other people on their 2-hour shows. I started by doing afternoon swap which is 15 minutes long but involves answering the phone live-on-air. Next, I did 2-Hour-Energy by myself and had a BLAST. This is where my nerves went away a ton and they diminished more and more with each show I did. Last week I even did the Wake Up Show and Morning News Hour. It was more intense, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

I have been working hard to prepare and am very excited to begin my radio show.

The Dice 93.1

If you are to ever listen I would LOVE any and all feedback! Leave a comment below, Tweet Me, or Send me an email!

First Apartment Checklist & Essentials

First Apartment Checklist & Essentials

You’re moving out for the first time?!?! How EXCITING!

Whether you’re moving away for college, work, travel, or any number of reasons, this is a huge next step in your life. When I moved out of my parent’s house and into my first apartment, I felt confident and excited. I soon realized that there was a lot of things I was completely clueless about and A LOT of things I needed to go out and buy because I completely spaced that I needed it. *Face Palm* This led to the creation of my ‘first apartment checklist’ so you can all learn from my mistakes. (I’m sure you’ll have plenty other mistakes to make on your own)

I’ve broken down the first apartment checklist into 6 categories of essentials. Having been moved out for 3 years now, I have learned that these are the things I absolutely need to have.  You may need to add more things and even take a few things off of the list. Either way I hope this first apartment checklist is beneficial to you and helps you stress a little less about moving!

I’d love to hear what your apartment essentials are!

Also you might notice throughout the list that I linked some items to my favorites. I absolutely LOVE Ikea for things like this, but this post is not sponsored in any way.

First Apartment Checklist

Moving out tips and first apartment checklist of essentials

Kitchen

The kitchen is where you need the most things, especially if you plan on eating more than mac and cheese, pizzas, and ramen. Trust me, it gets old FAST. Depending on what you cook will determine your kitchen essentials. Over the past three years of living on my own, I have found that these are the things that I need in my kitchen!

  • Silverware
  • Dishes
  • Pots/Pans
  • Cooking Utensils (spatula, soup ladle, wooden spoon, tongs, noodle spoon, pizza cutter, can opener)
  • Cutting Board
  • Measuring Cups
  • Strainer
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Parchment Paper
  • Saran Wrap
  • Blender
  • Coffee Maker
  • Toaster
  • Microwave
  • Dish Soap
  • Drying Rack
  • Table and Chairs
  • Tupperware
  • Ice Trays
  • Oven Mitt
  • Paper Towels/Napkins
  • Ziploc Bags

Moving out tips and first apartment checklist and essentials

Bathroom

Many bathroom essentials are common sense, but it can be easy to forget some things too. For example, you don’t want to wait to buy a plunger until you need one, at that point you will need it NOW. These things are absolutely essential to any bathroom. However, ask your landlord if you will need to bring your own shower curtain and rings or if there will already be one there.

  • Toilet Paper
  • Towels
  • Bath Mat
  • Shower Curtain and Rings
  • Toilet Brush
  • Plunger
  • First Aid Kit
  • Band-aids
  • Triple Antibiotic
  • Tylenol/Advil
  • Cough Medicine
  • Hand Soap

Moving out tips and first apartment checklist and essentials. Free printables

Bedroom

The bedroom essentials are the most straight forward. If you are trying to get the bare minimum then technically you just need a mattress, pillows, and bedding. However, I find that the rest of the items on the list are used on a daily basis.

moving out tips and first apartment essentials and checklist

Living Room

The living room can be broken down into 3 essential categories: Seating, Entertainment, and Lighting. Obviously seating can be a couch and/or chair. Entertainment involves a tv and possible game consoles. Last but certainly not least is lighting. This may not seem important but the last apartment I lived in and the current house I live in do not have any lights in the living room. Bring at least one lamp either way, just to be safe.

moving out tips and first apartment checklist of essentials. Cleaning products you need

Cleaning

Two of these items may be questionable “essentials” but I will tell you why you need them.

First item is rubber gloves. I used to clean without them, but they are the BEST dollar (yes just one dollar) I’ve EVER spent. I don’t have to worry at all about getting gross stuff on my hands.

Next is the magic erasers. I just recently used a magic eraser for the first time (my friend dyed her hair blue and rinsed it out in my tub causing my tub to be stained blue) after my mom recommended it to me. OMG! Where have these been my whole life?!?! If you have any kind of stains or small areas (in between tiles, stove/oven, literally everywhere) then you need to get yourself some magic erasers. You can thank me later.

  • Trash Bags
  • Trash Cans
  • Broom and Dustpan
  • Mop and Bucket
  • Vacuum
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Sponges
  • Cleaning Products (multi surface, windex, toilet cleaner, laundry detergent)
  • Magic Erasers
  • Rags

moving out tips and first apartment checklist and essentials. Plus free printable for moving out

Other

Some random things that I have found myself needing often. Good things to keep in your house at all times.

  • Batteries (AA + AAA)
  • Flashlight
  • Screw Driver
  • Hammer
  • Light Bulbs
  • Extension Cord/Surge Protector

Moving can be stressful and it can be so easy to forget things. Especially if this is the first time you are moving out on your own. Good luck to you!

I’d love to hear what some of your apartment essentials are and why!!

August Monthly Goals & July Recap {2017}

August Monthly Goals & July Recap {2017}

July was my first month back after taking a month off from blogging and WOW DID I LEARN A LOT!

I didn’t achieve any of my July monthly goals but I learned so much about myself and the things I need to do to succeed! ( And I am SO ready to crush my August monthly goals) Normally I am pretty disappointed when I don’t reach my goals but what I did instead this month was so much more important.

I slowly got myself back into the blogging world while simultaneously getting my personal life back under control. Honestly, I haven’t felt this organized in a long time and it is an INCREDIBLE feeling!

August is here and I am ready to crush my goals!

One thing I kept in mind while setting my August monthly goals is that I can’t do it all. I have a problem of wanting every aspect of my life to be perfect… then when it isn’t I feel defeated. So for August I am focusing on a few areas and will add more areas in September. After feeling overwhelmed for months, I knew this was the change in mindset I needed. Wish me luck!

Also, I would honestly LOVE to hear what your August monthly goals are or tell me about how July went for you! <3

August monthly goals inspiration

August Monthly Goals ~ Life

  • Complete Daily Habits

I started tracking my daily habits in July, but didn’t stick to it very well. So far August has been going well for me with this so I hope I can continue it. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, I plan on doing a post on it very soon!

  • Stick to monthly budget

The last few months I have been paying a lot more attention to my finances. So one of my August monthly goals is to actually stick to a budget. Fingers crossed!

  • Drink More Water

I went out and bought myself a cute water bottle from the dollar tree (Treat Yo’ Self!) and I am ready to drink water all day long!

  • Clean Daily

Cleaning is on my daily habits list, but I really want to focus on getting a good cleaning routine. In the month of August this will be one of my priorities. I know I won’t clean every.single.day, but I hope to do at least one task most days. And I think this is very attainable!

August Monthly Goals ~ Blogging

  • Finish Redesigning Website

You guys know I have been ‘redesigning’ my website literally forever. It took me forever to decide on the perfect theme and then I had technical difficulties for dayzzz (literally though). Luckily customer support was AMAZING.

Basically it just took me a long time to figure out what I want and now I know! It’ll probably change again soon, but whatever. I am SO excited for the changes to come and I would LOVE to hear feedback on anything and everything!!

  • Start Newsletter

One of my main objectives this month is to grow my email list. My first newsletter is almost complete and I am very happy with it and excited to send it out! So get ready and get signed up for my newsletter!! Whoo Hoo!

  • Plan 1st Email Freebie

I have multiple email freebie ideas already and couldn’t be more excited ( a lot of excitement this month). I’ve started planning and designing the first freebie so my goal is to have it finished by the end of August! I’m not sure when I will make it available, but I want it finished so I can begin working on the next one. (:

August is going to be a GREAT month whether I achieve all of my August monthly goals or not. I’m starting classes again, have HUGE plans for Dreaming With Love, and it’s the last month of SUMMER. Here’s to a WONDERFUL month full of productivity, positivity, and most importantly; HAPPINESS <3

If you want to follow along with how my month is going and updates on my August monthly goals then follow me on Twitter!!

That is all for now. I’ll talk to you soon

Manda Monday: July 2017 Monthly Goals

Manda Monday: July 2017 Monthly Goals

As I write this post, it is July 9th at 8:35PM, so I’m a little late… but oh well. July has already been a crazy busy month and there are so many July Monthly Goals I want to accomplish. I’ve been doing good so far and have been having a very positive month. Fingers crossed the positive vibes continue!!

For those of you who have been here before (here as in Dreaming With Love) or those of you who follow me on social media, you know Where I Have Been. If you don’t know, and would like to, check out this post here.

&& NOW MY JULY MONTHLY GOALS

Always be a Goal Digger {Dreaming With Love July Monthly Goals}

JULY MONTHLY GOALS – BLOGGING

  • Redesign Dreaming With Love Website

Some of you know that I have already started this process, but it is taking me longer than I had hoped. I still have a lot left that I want to do, I just have to do it. So keep your eyes open for some beautiful changes on Dreaming With Love <3

  • Start Newsletter

I have been saying that I want to start my newsletter forever, but it seriously needs to happen already. The sign-up will be up by the end of the month!

  • Plan an Email Freebie

I want to have a ton of email freebies for those of you who sign up for my newsletter. However, I have to start my newsletter first… But this month I want to at least plan my first email freebie so that I can design it next month!

  • Post Every Monday and Saturday

Especially every Saturday, but I won’t be too disappointed if I miss a Monday. Saturdays are for my less personal and more helpful posts. I’m lacking in numbers on those posts and they are the ones that attract new readers so I need to make them my priority this month.

I have been getting the best feedback from Twitter and Pinterest this month so I want to make them my priority. Next month I will be bringing back my instagram as well! I really enjoy connecting with others on Twitter, so if you haven’t already, go follow me on Twitter and Pinterest!!

JULY MONTHLY GOALS – LIFESTYLE

  • Complete Daily Habits

I’ve started a checklist to keep track of some daily habits I want to start. I’ve heard it works well and I am excited to give it a try. I will let you all know how it goes!

  • Workout 3 times per week

This is going to be tough for me because I find excuses all the time… But I really want to try it! I’d be happy to lose a few pounds, but I mainly just want to tone up and be healthier.

Indie Boy {Dreaming With Love July Monthly Goals}

  • Walk Indie Everyday

So we kind of have a dog at the moment… and his name is Indie. I made it a goal to take him for a walk everyday, at least once. He needs to burn the energy, its healthy for me, and it gets us both outside.

  • Read 30 Minutes 2 times per week

I love reading but I never make time to do it. I’d love to get back to reading every day, but that’s just not realistic right now. But I think can do 2 times a week!

  • Cook Dinner 4 times per week

I don’t really enjoy cooking, but if I don’t cook I end up eating unhealthy foods. I am going to try really hard to cook supper at least 4 times each week.

  • New Recipe once a week

Since I moved out of my parents, I have learned to cook a lot of different things. However, I still feel as if I’m making the same things over and over. I need more variety and I love discovering new recipes that are easy to make and delicious to eat! If you have any suggestions please let me know!

  • Pamper Night once a week

Self care is such an important thing to do yet it falls low on my list of priorities all too often. I want to make time once a week for about an hour to take a bath, do a facial, body scrub, deep condition my hair, or just to relax with a book. If I don’t schedule out time for it then I won’t ever get to it.

  • Complete 2 Deep Cleaning Tasks per week

I have started a deep cleaning log where I track what things in my house need to be deep cleaned and when they last were. My goal is to complete at least two tasks off of my deep cleaning log every week. They range from small to big projects so it should be easily done. Plus I love completing something off a list and I love having a clean home. (:

Check back in the end of July/beginning of August for my July Monthly Goals Recap along with my monthly goals for August! Also let me know what some of your July monthly goals are!!

April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing and Product Reviews {Monthly Subscription}

April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing and Product Reviews {Monthly Subscription}

My favorite time of the month, April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing! For those of you who have never heard of Ipsy, it is a monthly subscription. It costs $10 per month and in return you receive a makeup bag with 4-5 samples. I love it and it is almost always worth the $10! When you sign up they have you take a little quiz to give you products that you will like. Then each month you can review everything you’ve received so they can adjust what they send you. I highly recommend this monthly subscription!

*Disclaimer: This post is NOT sponsored. All opinions are my own.

April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing

April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing

This month’s bag is quite different from past bags, but I really like it. It’s probably just the film obsessed part of me that likes it so much. My mom gave her bag away as soon as she received it, haha. I’m not sure if I will use it as a bag or just decoration, but part of me really likes it.

April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing

OFRA Cosmetics Rendezvous Blush

Blush is one of my favorite products to use so I always get a little excited when I receive a new one. This blush is a very natural tone and has a slight brown tone (the picture does not show true color). I normally go for more pink and red tones for blush, but I am excited to try something new. I’ve also never used this brand which is always very exciting. However, it is a very small size and comes without a compact, which is kind of annoying.

WHEN I TRIED IT

Like I said this is a very natural looking blush, but I really like it. This will be perfect for my minimal makeup days. It blends out very smoothly and lasts all day long.

April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing

MintPear Vitamin C Serum

This product is very interesting to me and I’m not sure how to feel about it. It is a Vitamin C Serum that is supposed to “lighten, tighten, and brighten” your skin. The bottle is a very small size (like everything else in this month’s bag) but I should be able to get a decent amount of uses out of it. It doesn’t have a very strong smell, but the scent that it does have is not very good.

WHEN I TRIED IT

I used this every night for a week and was SO impressed with the results. Even the first morning I noticed a difference in the color of my face! I deal with redness in my face and this lighten the red color so much. I will definitely be repurchasing this product and continuing to use it to see if it will continue to improve my skin.

April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing

Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Glow Shimmer Shadow & Highlighter

A BEAUTIFUL shadow AND highlighter from Elizabeth Mott. I am very excited for this product! It is also a small size, but as a shadow/highlighter it will last a long time. It is a gorgeous color, but it is a little more natural looking than most of my highlighters. However it will be GORGEOUS on the inner corner of my eyes! Overall I am happy and very excited about this product.

WHEN I TRIED IT

This product is SO GORGEOUS and lasts all day long! I absolutely love it and I hope it lasts me a long time! Elizabeth Mott never fails me.

April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing

EM Cosmetics Illustrative Eyeliner Brush Tip

I LOVE receiving new eyeliners because I have yet to find the “perfect” one. Trying different types of formula and applicators is always good because it helps me know what I like and don’t like. This liner has a very nice pigment and goes on easily. I am excited to give it a try to see how long it lasts on my oily eyelids!

WHEN I TRIED IT

It isn’t my favorite applicator for liquid eyeliner but the product is so nice. It lasts all day even on my oily eyelids! I’m going to play around with it a little more and hopefully I will start to like the brush tip more.

April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing

Josie Maran Cosmetics Whipped Argan Oil Face Butter

I always enjoy trying new skin care products so I was pretty excited about this product. It is a very small size, once again, but I should be able to get a few uses from it.

WHEN I TRIED IT

After using this for a few days, I was neither impressed nor disappointed. It’s a decent face butter, but it doesn’t do anything extra special for me. If I had a bigger size and was able to use it for longer, maybe I would like it better.

April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing

April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing Overall Review:

I wasn’t very impressed with my April Ipsy. All of the products are something new to me (which is awesome), but they are also all very small sizes. The bag is different, but I like it. Also most of the brands are new to me so that is great as well. I have nothing to really complain about, except the sizes of the products, but I also don’t have anything I am super excited about. It wasn’t a terrible bag, but it wasn’t great either.

Rating: 2/5

I would love to hear about what products you got in this month’s Ipsy and what you thought of it! Also let me know if you did a April 2017 Ipsy Unboxing!

IPSY UNBOXING && REVIEW {MARCH 2017}

My favorite time of the month, March 2017 Ipsy Unboxing!

This month’s bag is so adorable! It is a gorgeous rose gold color with a gold zipper and black detailing. The top folds over slightly giving it a super chic look!

March 2017 Ipsy Unboxing and Product Review

mPRINCESS PRESSED EYE SHADOW IN CHESTNUT

I always enjoy receiving new eye shadows so I can try out new looks regularly. This mPrincess eye shadow is super gorgeous. The chestnut color is a coppery brown shade and I love the shimmer that it gives off. The consistency is very creamy and it seems to blend well.

I would like to receive more colorful shadows in Ipsy that I can play around with more rather than just neutral colors. However, it is still nice to discover new brands and their formulas.

WHEN I TRIED IT

I decided to try out this eye shadow in my crease and I LOVE it! It blends so well and is such a beautiful color. The pigment is amazing and it lasted throughout the day (even on my oily lids)! Very happy with this product!

March 2017 Ipsy Unboxing and Product Review

BEAU GACHIS TAPERED BLENDING BRUSH

Every time I get a new brush from Ipsy, I get super excited. I love trying new brands of brushes without having to pay an outrageous price. This brush feels super soft yet a good firmness. I have high hopes.

WHEN I TRIED IT

As amazing as I had hoped it to be. It applied my eye shadow so nicely and it works so well for blending. I will definitely be using this brush often!

March 2017 Ipsy Unboxing and Product Review

AIR REPAIR SKINCARE COMPLEXION-BOOSTING MOISTURIZER

It is kind of a small amount at only .34 FL OZ, but besides that I am happy. I love having travel size moisturizers for nights away from home. I use them all the time and it’s so much easier than bringing my huge bottles. This one has a very ‘clean’ smell to it. I’m sure I will like it.

WHEN I TRIED IT

Regardless of the small size, I love the product! The moisturizer went on so smoothly and dried very quickly. I hate when I have to wait for my moisturizer to dry before applying makeup. It is a quite thick moisturizer, but I love how smooth it leaves my skin feeling and it doesn’t feel heavy once it is on my face. Overall loving this moisturizer!

March 2017 Ipsy Unboxing and Product Review

MARC ANTHONY ALOE VERA & JASMINE OIL DEEP REPAIRING CONDITIONING TREATMENT

I always love getting a new conditioning treatment! Usually I use one twice a week so I am always looking for new ones that I love. I’m extra excited about this Marc Anthony one because it is a deep repair, it has aloe vera in it, and it has an amazing jasmine smell.

WHEN I TRIED IT

I LOVE how this left my hair feeling and smelling! After one use my hair feels so soft and strong. It smells absolutely amazing and I will definitely be using this again.

March 2017 Ipsy Unboxing and Product Review

TARTE COSMETICS TARTEIST QUICK DRY MATTE LIP PAINT IN ROSE

YEEESSSS! I LOVE TARTE. If you know me then you know I get excited any time I get a Tarte product. I always end up loving them! (Just yesterday I reviewed the Tarte Maracuja Oil!) Plus I LOVE having small lippies to throw in my purse and for traveling!

WHEN I TRIED IT

I’m not entirely in love with this lippie, but I do like it. I LOVE the color! It is perfect for this time of year as we are transitioning from winter to spring. Also it dries very quickly, but doesn’t leave your lips feeling too dry. They do feel a little more dry than I like, but it’s hardly noticeable. It lasted a good amount of time before I had to reapply, but I would’ve liked it to last even longer.

Overall I like the lippie and will be using it, but I’m not sure if I will buy any other colors in this formula.

March 2017 Ipsy Unboxing

March 2017 Ipsy Unboxing Overall Review:

I am super happy with my Ipsy this month! Generally there are 1 or 2 products I’m not too happy with, but I will be using all of the products and the bag is one of the cutest I have received so far (which is A LOT of bags).

I would love to hear about what products you got in this month’s Ipsy and what you thought of it! Also let me know if you did a March 2017 Ipsy Unboxing!

Tarte Cosmetics Product Review: Maracuja Deluxe Oil

Tarte Cosmetics Product Review: Maracuja Deluxe Oil

I recently received the Tarte Cosmetics Maracuja Deluxe Oil in an Ipsy bag. I talked about it a little bit in my December Ipsy Unboxing and again in my January Monthly Favorites. Since December, when I received the Tarte Cosmetics Maracuja Deluxe Oil, I have fallen in love with this product and all the things it can do. I know that this product has been out for years, but I stayed away from it because oils and I don’t always get along. However, I am now kicking myself for not giving it a try sooner.

Tarte Cosmetics Maracuja Deluxe Oil {Product Review}

My First Thoughts:

Number one: “Oh my goodness, this packaging is adorable!” Seriously though I love the packaging it came in and the product bottle itself. Tarte always does such  good job so I wasn’t surprised.

Next thought was a little less positive. I am not always a huge fan of new oils, especially for my face, because I tend to have pretty oily skin. However, this product is NOT just for your face (I love it on my face anyways though).

Overall I was very excited to try this, but little did I know how much I would LOVE this product.

Full Product Review:

Tarte you did a really good job with this product! At first I only used it on my hands and face. I loved it! It left my face and hands feeling soft and looking so smooth and dewy, but not shiny at all. I didn’t really like the smell that much, but the results are so worth it!

After a little while I began mixing it with my foundation and OH MY GOODNESS, this is AMAZING! I love the glow that this mixture creates on my skin, it is gorgeous. Plus my face doesn’t get too dry or oily throughout the day.

The next use is for your hair. Similar to any other oil, you rub a little bit (2-3 drops) into the ends of your hair. I use an oil in my hair everyday to help with dry and split ends. This maracuja oil worked really well, but left my hair feeling a little more greasy than I wanted. I use it at night if I know I will be taking a shower in the morning. I still really love it!

Now if you didn’t think all of that was enough then this incredible oil can also be used to soften your cuticles.

Will I Repurchase?

I looked at Tarte to find the price and it is $48 for a 1.7 oz. bottle. This bottle would literally last me over a year. I also saw that it is on sale at Ulta right now for $25 so I ordered myself one for when mine runs out. I’m not sure how long the sale lasts.

So this means that Yes I will repurchase because I already did.

Overall Rating:

4.3/5

It would be higher if it smelt good and if it didn’t make my hair so oily. Otherwise I love the product!

If you’ve tried the Tarte Maracuja Deluxe Oil, let me know what you thought! If you swear by a different oil, let me know what it is and why you love it!

15 Awesome and Easy Prank Ideas for April Fools Day

15 Awesome and Easy Prank Ideas for April Fools Day

I know it’s only March, but I’m already super excited for April Fool’s Day! This year I’m preparing ahead of time. I normally last-minute realize what day it is and quick find an easy prank. It’s always a good time. However, this year I’m surprising those around me with pranks throughout the day. Here is a list of 15 super awesome April Fools Prank Ideas and they are all pretty easy. I don’t really like ones that involve food because that’s just too mean for me. I hate thinking about some of the food pranks being done to me so I just can’t bring myself to do them to others. However, I included a few food ones that aren’t terribly disgusting.

15 April Fools Prank Ideas

Also I named all of these pranks myself. Enjoy.

  • Confetti Car

Get some confetti OR get a couple of pieces of paper and a pair of scissors. Cut up the paper into little pieces, almost like… CONFETTI. Take your paper confetti and place it in someones car vents on the front dash (this only works if you live in an area where people need to use their defrost). Then when the person turns their vehicle on in the morning with the defrost… BOOM! CONFETTI!

  • Careful Where you Sit

For this prank, you need some of the little Pop-it noise makers. Place a few of them underneath the toilet seat. I shouldn’t have to explain what happens next.

  • Caramel SURPRISE

For this one you need:

  • Onions
  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Caramel

Directions:

  1. Peel Onions
  2. Put Caramel on Onions
  3. Push the Popsicle sticks into the onions.

Now set a tray out on the counter at work or home. Sit back and laugh.

  • Shower Time

I’m so excited to do this prank. Get some red drink mix of any kind. Put the mix in the shower head. When someone goes to shower it will look like blood is coming out of the shower.

  • Awww My Shirt is Wet

My favorite April Fools Prank to do when I was little. Get some electrical tape or scotch tape. Go to your kitchen sink. Put the tape around the sink sprayer. Someone will turn the water on and get sprayed!

  • The Classic

I feel like everyone and their brothers know this prank. Switch the salt and the sugar! Its easy. Only problem is sometimes it takes a while before anyone uses the salt or sugar.

  • Say Cheese

Make someone orange juice on the morning of April Fools Day. How nice of you… Except now add a little powdered cheese (from a mac and cheese box) into their drink.

  • I got a cup out for you.

This one would work perfectly with the previous. When you set out the pitcher of orange juice, next to it you can place a cup for them. Except it’s not an ordinary cup. Make sure the cup isn’t see through. Fill it up with about a cup of water and a few ice cubes. Get a thin piece of cardboard (cut out a piece from a cereal box) and place it over the cup. Make sure the cardboard covers the entire opening of the cup. Now flip the cup upside down and set it on the table (with the cardboard over the opening the entire time). Quickly slide the cardboard out from under the cup. Wipe up any excess water. Now wait for your victim.

  • KaBOOM goes the coca-cola

This one works perfectly for the person who needs their Coca-Cola (not sponsored, I wish though) everyday. Freeze ice cubes with mentos inside of them. Add them to a glass of coke and once the ice cubes melt, KaBOOM goes the coca-cola!

  • The Empty Bottle that is Full

This one is so simple yet so good. All you need is Saran wrap, scissors, and some bottles from the bathroom (shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc.). Take the caps off the bottles, place Saran wrap over the opening, screw the cap back on, and cut off the excess Saran wrap.

Now someone will try to get the contents out of the bottle and nothing will come out. You can also do this with the condiments in the fridge!

  • Too Much Work

I have seen pictures of this prank and it would be hilarious! However, its gonna take a lot of time and patience to set it up.

First, get a bunch of plastic cups. Fill all of the plastic cups with water and place them on the floor. Repeat until the floor is covered in cups of water to the point where you can’t walk through the room at all. I would hate to have this prank played on me, but I would love it to happen to someone else!

  • Loud Rug

Go get yourself some bubble wrap. Put the bubble wrap under a rug. Laugh when people step on rug.

  • Ooooo Look, a Penny!

I’ve done in school before and it was so funny. Plus it is super simple. All you do is super glue a penny to the floor. I did it in the doorway of a classroom. People will stop to pick it up, but it’s glued to the floor! Just make sure to put it heads up for good luck.

  • Hide and Seek

Take some of the things from someone in your house who is sleeping (parents, siblings, roommate, etc.). Make sure the things are valuable to them and that they will notice it is missing. Place a sticky note in place of the item or items you took. On the sticky note write instructions on to how to find the items. Lead them around the house with the use of multiple sticky notes. At the end, have their items waiting for them. You can make this prank last as long as you want!

  • Sticky Notes for Dayssss

I’m sure you have seen pictures of this prank everywhere. It’s another very time-consuming one, but it’s worth it. Get a bunch of sticky notes and completely cover someone’s vehicle in the sticky notes. Don’t leave any part showing. The windows, lights, everything. Just go to town with the sticky notes.

I will be doing most of these to my boyfriend (good thing he doesn’t read my posts Hehe) this year on April 1st. If you want to hear updates on how they go, make sure to follow my Twitter on April Fool’s Day!

I would LOVE to hear any of the Prank Ideas you have so I can use some of them on April Fools Day!

Winter Health && Beauty Tips: My Top 5

Winter Health && Beauty Tips: My Top 5

Winter time takes a huge toll on our mental and physical health! I came up with my top 5 winter health and beauty tips that I use to survive and thrive during the long winter months.

*Disclaimer: This post is not sponsored in any way and all opinions are my own.

Winter Health and Beauty Tips #1: Moisturizers are your Best Friend

Seriously use lotion on everything, every.single.day! Due to the dry winter air, your skin and hair will be dryer than normal. Moisturize your legs, face, arms, hands, lips, hair, feet, and anything else you can!

My Favorite Products to Use:

Winter Health and Beauty Tips #2: Sore throats? Natural Remedies!

Sore throats are so common in the winter time and they are so annoying. However, there are so many different foods to eat to help soothe and make your sore throat, well, not sore. In addition to fixing your sore throat, they are all very healthy for you to eat anyways. It’s really a win-win!

  • Tea (Lemon is my favorite)
  • Honey (put it in your tea)
  • Ice Cream (as if we need an excuse to eat some)
  • Bananas! (You should eat these everyday no matter what)
  • Cooked Carrots (I don’t like my carrots cooked, but this really does work)
  • Cooked Cabbage (I know it doesn’t taste the best, but it is worth it)

Winter Health and Beauty Tips #3: Watch your water!

  • First of all ALWAYS: Hydrate! I’m sure you hear this all the time, but it’s for a good reason! Water does miracles for your hair, skin, health, and body. Just drink it, all day long! Get yourself a good water bottle (my favorite) and take it with you everywhere!
  • Avoid hot water on your skin and hair! I literally suck at this and I always will. I LOVE steaming hot showers and I’m not giving them up. As a result, I have dry hair and skin. However, I try to end my shower with cold water, for a short time. If you can, avoid hot water. It dries out your skin and hair which we definitely don’t want!

Winter Health and Beauty Tips #4: Stay social and active!

Once again, I suck at this one in the winter time. It’s cold out and I just want to stay inside with my robe and slippers where it is cozy and warm. Don’t do this though. You need to continue to do activities with friends and family so you don’t fall into a slump. It is very common in Winter and sometimes uncontrollable, but planning weekly activities is a great way to try to avoid the winter blues.

  • Plan a girls/guys night
  • Go out for coffee or a meal with friends
  • Join a weekly activity in your community
  • Volunteer your time
  • Meet up with a friend once a week to try to learn a new hobby
  • Have dinner at your (parents, grandparents, friends, etc.) house once a week

Winter Health and Beauty Tips #5: Set weekly or daily goals

Finally, the last of my winter health and beauty tips. I recently started doing this one and it makes a huge difference on my overall mental health! Having a goal that you are working towards daily and weekly helps you stay motivated and stay on task. It helps my mind feel less distracted and stressed. Instead of thinking about every little thing that I need to do, I write it all down, and focus on my overall goal of the day and week. I also have larger goals for the month, year, and next 5 years. These goals may change and that’s okay! Most of all just make sure you are working towards something bigger, one day at a time!

What tips do you have for surviving and thriving in the Winter Time? I love trying new winter health and beauty tips! Also let me know if you try out any of the above tips and what you thought!

Ipsy Unboxing && Review {January 2017}

Ipsy Unboxing && Review {January 2017}

My favorite time of the month, January 2017 Ipsy Unboxing!

January 2017 Ipsy Unboxing and Review

I really like this month’s bag. I saw that so many people didn’t, but I think it is adorable and I LOVEEE the color! The material, I must admit, is quite weird and easily unlikable. It just doesn’t bother me that much and the cuteness makes up for it. I will be using this bag!

January 2017 Ipsy Unboxing 2

I received a beautiful blush from Mannakadar Beauty. It is a gorgeous pink/red color. I normally wouldn’t go for a color this dark, but I was very excited to give it a try!

When I Tried It:

First off, it may just be me, but I had a really hard time opening this packaging! Once I finally did, it has a very smooth consistency and was super easy to blend. The color isn’t my favorite, but it lasts all day. I’m excited to step out of my comfort zone and use this more often.

January 2017 Ipsy Unboxing 3

Next in my January 2017 Ipsy bag, I pulled out a Blue Lotus Seed Mud Mask and Exfoliant by Pur-lisse! I am always excited to try a new skin product especially face masks! I use them really often so having a big variety is super nice!

When I Tried It:

I didn’t have a chance to try this yet, but plan to soon. Check back soon to see my thoughts!

January 2017 Ipsy Unboxing 4

I received the “Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination™ Anti-Aging Concealer” by IT Cosmetics in the shade light. I was really excited when I pulled this out of the bag. I love IT Cosmetics and always love a new concealer! It was a pretty small size, but I will get a good amount of uses out of it.

When I Tried It:

Sadly I’m very disappointed with this product. It is extremely sticky and quite hard to blend. There is barely any coverage and it isn’t very easy to build. I do however LOVE the color. It is very illuminating and gorgeous! I plan to use it as a natural looking highlighter rather than a concealer.

January 2017 Ipsy Unboxing 5

When I pulled the next item out of the bag I for sure thought it was an eye shadow. It is actually a bronzer by the Balm Cosmetics in the shade Bahama Mama. I love this color and may end up using it as an eye shadow anyways! I’m not a huge bronzer user, but it is also hard to find a shade I love so I’m excited to give this product a try.

When I Tried It:

I love the color and it is so easy to blend! I used it on both my eyes and as a bronzer. It worked great for both! Very happy with this product!

January 2017 Ipsy Unboxing 6

Lately I have been obsessed with finding better face products to use. I received a face primer by Temptu and am so excited to try it out! I have pretty oily skin so finding the perfect primer is a struggle for me.

When I Tried It:

I love it! It smells amazing and it goes on feeling very light. It lasts throughout the day and keeps everything from sliding around! It didn’t quite work as an eye primer for me, but that’s not what its made for anyways. I will definitely be using and possibly repurchasing this item!

January 2017 Ipsy Unboxing 7

Overall I was very happy with this month’s Ipsy bag! I felt like the products were all pretty small compared to usual. However, I like the majority of the products and will be using most! I’ve definitely had better months, but I’ve also had worse!

Let me know if you did a January 2017 Ipsy Unboxing or what products you got  and your thoughts on them!

Beating the Dry Winter Air: DIY Lip Scrub

Beating the Dry Winter Air: DIY Lip Scrub

I personally live where the winter air is very very dry right now and this easy and cheap DIY lip scrub has been a life saver (or a lip saver). My lips become chapped so quickly no matter how much chap stick I use. I have used a few different lip scrubs in the past, but none of them compare to this easy and cheap homemade lip scrub. You can make it any flavor or color so it is perfect for gifts too! I’d love to know if you give this a try and what you thought!

*Disclaimer: This post is not sponsored in any way and all opinions are my own.

Ingredients You Need for a DIY Lip Scrub

  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Olive Oil
  • Vanilla Extract (Optional)
  • Food Coloring (Optional)
  • Small Jar or Container
  • Tarte Maracuja Oil (Optional)

The vanilla extract is for flavor so you do not need to add this. You can also use different kinds of extracts to get different flavors.

DIY Lip Scrub food coloring

The food coloring is only to make our DIY lip scrub prettier, but it is not necessary. I used neon food coloring and was a little disappointed with the end colors.

I have been loving Tarte Maracuja Oil that I received in my December Ispy and I talk all about it in my January Favorites! You can add your favorite oil as well, I just suggest using a little less olive oil if you do. In the end there should be a total of 1/2 Tsp oil.

DIY Lip Scrub Instructions

First of all you just add all of your ingredients together, stir really well, and place the final result in your jar or container.

Rub the scrub onto your clean, dry lips for about 30 seconds.

Finally you can rinse your lips off and you’re done! In addition to the DIY Lip Scrub, wearing chap stick after and throughout the day will help keep your lips smooth!

*Other good ingredients to use in addition or in replacement are brown sugar, honey, or coconut oil.

I do this DIY lip scrub about 2-3 times a week depending on how dry my lips are. What are your tips to getting rid of dry lips?

Ipsy Unboxing & Review {December 2016}

My favorite time of the month, December 2016 Ipsy Unboxing! For those of you who have never heard of Ipsy, it is a monthly subscription. It costs $10 per month and in return you receive a makeup bag with 4-5 samples. I love it and it is always worth the $10! When you sign up they have you take a little quiz to give you products that you will like. Then each month you can review everything you’ve received so they can adjust what they send you. I highly recommend this monthly subscription!

Disclaimer: This post is NOT sponsored. All opinions are my own.

December 2016 Ipsy Unboxing

I absolutely love this month’s bag! It is a deep pink/red color that is so perfect for the holidays. It also has a very smooth fuzzy feeling that I love. Attached is a shiny pink handle that makes the bag look so nice. Definitely one of my favorite bags from Ipsy!

December 2016 Ipsy Unboxing 2

The first thing I pulled out of the bag was this Mad Lash black mascara. I love having lots of small mascaras to keep in my purse. I also enjoy trying different types of mascara so I know exactly what I like and don’t like. The wand is very long with a slight curve. It has a lot of bristles, but they are kind of short which worried me.

When I tried it:

At first I loved it a lot! It made my lashes look longer and very dark, which I love. And it lasted all day! The second day I was running late for work and just wanted to put mascara on real quick. I’m not sure if I applied it wrong or what, but my lashes were so clumpy! I decided to try one more day and on my third day it worked great again… I want to continue to use it because when it works, it works great!

December 2016 Ipsy Unboxing 3

The next thing in my bag was this pink beauty sponge from mint pear. I have never heard of them, but I love discovering new brands. The sponge feels very soft and squishy so I had high hopes for it!

When I tried it:

I really loved this sponge! It is not as good as the beauty blender, but I was very happy with it. While running water over the sponge it got bigger, but remained soft and squishy. It applied my foundation really well. I plan on looking into repurchasing this depending on the price!

December 2016 Ipsy Unboxing 4

Next I pulled out a snow cream moisturizer from Symphony Beauty. Again I have never heard of this brand, but I love new skin products. It is a very small size and I will only be able to get a few uses from it, but this will be nice to just throw in my purse.

When I tried it:

This moisturizer made my skin feel so soft! It dried really quickly which I love and it barely had a scent. It is a small size so I plan on keeping it in my purse because I am always needing lotion in this cold, dry winter weather.

December 2016 Ipsy Unboxing 6

December 2016 Ipsy Unboxing 5

This item is what I was most excited for in this bag. Maracuja oil from Tarte! It is oil for your hands, face and, neck. The oil can also be used for your cuticles or split ends. The packaging is absolutely adorable and I am excited to try it!

When I tried it:

So excited to continue using this oil. It made my skin feel really smooth and did such a good job at moisturizing it! I did not like the smell of it, but it wasn’t strong at all. It also dried really quickly so that’s a huge plus.

December 2016 Ipsy Unboxing 7

The last thing in this month’s bag is an eye shadow in the shade melting maple from M Princess. It is a beautiful gold sparkly color. I normally don’t like powdered eye shadows as much as pressed ones.

When I tried it:

The color is so beautiful and pigmented! I’m not sure how often I will reach for it just because it is a powdered eye shadow. However, it lasted all day (even on my oily eyelids) and barely transferred at all!

Let me know what you thought of the products you received in this month’s Ipsy bag! Also if you did a December 2016 Ipsy Unboxing, send me the link!
