Life Hacks to Improve your Mood when Life gets you Down! -Dreaming Wtih Love <3 I don’t know about you guys, but sometimes I get in a bad mood for no good reason. I’m sick of it so I made a list of tips to improve your mood!

We all have bad days. It’s just life.

That doesn’t mean that we just have to deal with the bad days and not do anything to make them better. Life is too short to be sad/mad for any longer than needed.

I’m not saying there aren’t valid reasons to be sad or mad. And I know that sometimes it is necessary to dwell in your sadness for a period of time and just cry it out. However these tips to improve your mood will help you become happy quicker. They will help you enjoy the bad day as much as possible.

It really isn’t that hard to improve your mood, but we too easily fall into the negativity hole and can’t get back out.

I hope these tips help you when life gets you down! Also I would love to hear what suggestions you have to improve your mood!

JOURNAL

Whenever I am feeling upset or defeated, it helps me so much to write about it. Putting all of my thoughts down on paper really helps me think through everything and come to terms with it. After I write everything down, I take some time to reflect on my life and where I want it to go from here.

If you don’t enjoy writing very much then I have a couple other suggestions.

  1. Find a quiet place by yourself. Instead of writing everything down that you are feeling, say it out loud. Video record yourself if you want to reflect on everything. Or sometimes it really does just help to say everything out loud.
  2. Write down a list of everything, big and small, that you are currently thankful for in life. This always makes me really emotional, but I also always feel happier when I finish. Focusing on the positive things rather than the negative can completely change your mood.

GET ORGANIZED/TIDY UP

This will work best especially for my fellow OCD people. Having everything in its place with no clutter is one of the best feelings ever. I find it super relaxing to just sit down and start deep cleaning and organizing everything. Plus afterwards I feel so refreshed and calm looking at all of my accomplished progress.

If organizing doesn’t excite you then find an activity around the house that does. Everyone always seems to have a list of projects to work on. Doing something like this will likely take your mind off of whatever is getting you down and you’ll feel great being so productive!

  • Gardening
  • Baking/Cooking
  • Sewing/Knitting/Crochet/Etc.
  • Yard Work

GET ACTIVE

It has been proven that any kind of physical activity will improve your mood due to the endorphins being released. So get up and get active!

You don’t need to go run a marathon. Simply taking the dog for a walk, taking some time for a small yoga-sesh, or even just some light stretching (I love the app Sworkit for stretching). If you need a little motivation, I have a list of my favorite FITspirational quotes!

Honestly anything that will get your heart pumping a little faster will help you feel better and ready to take on the day!

TREAT YOURSELF

It’s easy to feel guilty when you forget about all of your responsibilities and just do something for yourself. However, sometimes we need to do that and you shouldn’t feel guilty. You need to take care of yourself, mentally and physically, in order to thrive in your life.

Find some time to set aside and just do something that makes you happy! Even if it is only 30 minutes to an hour, it will make a huge difference.

Some of my favorite things to do are:

  • Take a Bath
  • Read a Book
  • Spa Day (Face mask, nails, etc.)
  • Bake your Favorite Dessert
  • Watch your Favorite Movie

There are so many options and you know best what makes you happy. So forget about your responsibilities for a bit and RELAX!

USE YOUR MEDIA RESOURCES

One of my favorite things to do when I’m in a bad mood is allow myself to get zoned out on something else. This keeps my mind off of the bad things and helps my day go a little smoother.

Watch an inspirational YouTube video, turn on some of your favorite music, or binge watch a new Netflix series!

There are so many options and sometimes we just need to distract ourselves from the real world for a little bit.

 

*A lot of these ideas include “forgetting about your problems/responsibilities. I just want to say that this is not a healthy option to do every time. You need to face your problems face on in life in order to progress and grow. However, once in a while it is nice to just forget about everything and focus on your own mental health. Especially if you have a problem with no immediate solution.

There is no point is stressing and worrying about something you have no control over.
